This article applies to the Dodge Ram (2002-2008).

It's pretty self explanatory what the front speakers in your Ram truck do. As long as your stereo system works, then your speakers project the sound directed from the head unit. Sometimes the speaker insulation becomes cracked and affects the sound, or sometimes the speakers can blow up and get damaged due to excessive volume. But, sometimes speakers just get up in age and must be replaced for optimum sound. Although replacing these is a somewhat simple and straight forward job, if you aren't sure then consult with the local stereo shop.

Materials Needed

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • 10mm socket
  • Ratchet wrench

Step 1 – Remove door panel

Start by opening either one of the front doors, and start by prepping the door panel to be removed. Start by using the 10mm socket and ratchet wrench to remove the bolt behind the door handle. Then use the Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw to the right of the the door handle. Now remove the screw at the top by the side mirror cover, and the two screws at the very bottom of the door panel. Lastly, pop the window switch cover out, and unplug the wiring connectors. Then carefully lift and wiggle the door panel out.

Step 2 – Remove speaker

Now that the door panel is out of the way, it's time to remove the actual speaker from the door mount. The speaker is held in place by four or six screws (depending on the model). You will need to use a Phillips screwdriver to remove all of the screws. Once the screws are removed, simply pop the speaker out of place, and disconnect the single wiring connector located in the back of the speaker.

Step 3 – Install new speaker

With the old speakers out of the way, the installation of the new speaker is in the exact reverse order as just performed. Follow these steps:

  1. Connect speaker wiring connector.
  2. Replace speaker bolts.
  3. Mount door panel.
  4. Screw bottom, mirror cover and door handle bolts.
  5. Reconnect door window switches.
