This article applies to the Dodge Ram 1500 (2009-present).

Let's face it, removal and installation of a Tonneau cover can be tricky for some Dodge Ram owners. This large protective cover is quite cumbersome, and it can take at least two people to safely and comfortably position it into place for removal or installation. However, you can lessen the strain and frustration of the job by following all instructions to the letter. It's recommended that you ask a friend to assist you in this task. However, you should choose someone who is comfortable with and physically strong enough to do some heavy lifting.

Step 2 – Prevent the latches from coming undone

  • To prevent the tailgate from coming undone and interfering in the following steps, secure the latches with zip ties.
  • Take notice of where the cover rail sits along the length of the bed rails.
  • Mark these positions with a craft pen or marking pen.

Step 3 – Free up the clamps

Free up the clamps by unbolting and removing them one by one using your Allen wrench.
