This article applies to the Dodge Ram (2009-present).

Let's just be honest, picking out your favorite trim package on a truck is like a parent having to choose a favorite child. That said, when push comes to shove, you are going to make a decision and one will be the favorite. Picking which you would rather have, the Dodge Ram with the Sport package or Laramie package, is the same as picking your favorite child. It's Billy versus Barbara.

This article breaks down some of the differences between the Sport and Laramie packages on the Dodge Ram, but you're on your own when it comes to kids! Let's get this showdown on the road!

What's the Same?

Let's start with the things that are the same. To list everything would cause you to fall asleep, so let's hit the highlights. The basic electronic components are the same between the Sport and Laramie packages. You'll have more standard options on the Laramie but you can get a lot of upgrade options on the Sport, so we'll call that a wash. Headlights, tail lights, running boards, and colors are all even. Leather interior, even. Both can have a factory spray-in bead liner. Both have towing capacity. Collision warning systems. Back up camera. The Sport has only one engine option, the 5.7L V8. You can get that engine on the Laramie, but it also has two other engine options.

In the end, the Laramie and Sport carry a lot of the same options but they look different. Explaining the differences can be challenging but here's a list of some of them.

What's Different?

  1. Sport hood on the Sport Package
  2. Bumpers with matching paint on the Sport
  3. Fog lights
  4. Chrome - Laramie
  5. Dual paint colors - Laramie (although it can have matching paint)
  6. Dual leather colors - Laramie (although it can have single color option)

The Interior Visual Difference

The visual difference between the Dodge Ram Laramie edition and the Sport edition on the interior is where you really start to see the difference. The Laramie has many more standard options than the Sport edition. You can pick out quite a few differences simply from the pictures shown above. Most noticeable is the leather. The two-tone Laramie likely jumps off the page for you, which is something not available on the Sport. Other than that, you can pay and upgrade the Sport quite a bit to get the Laramie options.

Deciding Between the Two

Which truck you are going to choose goes back to the fact that there isn't a wrong answer. It really comes down to personal preference. If you walk up with a super model on your arm, is anyone going to say you really screwed up with that decision? The answer is no. Picking between the Sport and Laramie Edition may come down to price, fuel economy, painted features and chrome. Lots and lots of chrome. The person next to you at the light isn't going to tell you that you screwed up your decision. So which one are you going with? Sport or Laramie?
