The Full Montee

Located in France, the Montee Des Legendes is a hillclimb race that sees cars from all over the world compete to see who can climb this challenging road the fastest. Corners vary from insane hairpins with 6” deep gutters to flat out S sections that are taken at well over 140mph in certain machines. Meanwhile, a mountain wall and guardrail loom ominously, waiting for the drivers to make a mistake.

Snake Attack

The car in question is an absolutely mental version of the GTS-R that has been tuned to 620 horsepower and weighs a feather-like 1,150 kilograms. Converted to pounds, that's around 2,530 lb which is the same weight as a Mazda Miata. Torque is a staggering 590 lb-ft which comes from the 8.0L V10 that moves the Viper off the line with serious force.

Dynamic Flow

Air is channeled around and to the back of the hillclimb racer where it finds a rear wing and decently sized rear diffuser. Airflow is aided by a flat floor underbody design that ensures the air travels smoothly without turbulence. When it comes to aero, this GTS-R is locked and dialed.

Total Control

These cars have a bit of a wild reputation which has definitely been tamed in this racing version. Corner exit and entry are extremely controlled and uneventful which is exactly what you want when bolting down a road this treacherous. Shocks are rebound and compression-adjustable, which further aids in chassis control.

No Room for Error

Any kind of hillclimb leaves zero room for error. A moment of understeer can be the end of your car or worse, which is a serious testament to the engineering that went into the Viper GTS-R. These cars are set up to dominate wherever they show up and this race was no exception. It’s great to see one of these at full chat down a road like this.
