Last of the Viper

With the used sports car market taking an even more severe hit in the past year in terms of the number of available listings, it's not necessarily a huge surprise to see this ultra-rare Viper sold for so much. But in reality, these track-ready monster became an instant icon the second FCA announced that they were going to seize production of their legendary Viper.

And if there's one thing FCA (now Stellantis) has proven to be masters at, it's creating special editions. And the Viper featured in this slideshow is the perfect storm of everything that would make the potent sports car desirable. This is a 1-of-100 2017 Viper GTS-R Final Edition ACR. Not only that, it also has the #001 number plaque on the dashboard.

First Off The Line

The special edition model was created in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Viper, which also coincided with the end of its production run. All 100 units of the GTS-R Final Edition ACR were spoken for within two days of pre-orders opening. And yet another factor that adds to the value of this particular Viper is the fact that it only shows 51 miles on the odometer. That means it's practically as new as the day it rolled off the factory line as number 1 of 100.

Sporty Looks

All 100 examples come with Viper white paint with blue racing stripes. And on the inside, the sports car features black leather and an Alcantara interior. Red stitching and accents provide a welcome contrast to the black color scheme, while also adding to the sporty feel.

8.4L V10

The star of the show under the hood of the Viper is the 8.4-liter V10, capable of 645 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. The big motor is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission that sends the power to the rear wheels via a limited-slip diff.

Ready for the Race Track

This being the track-focused version of the Viper, a mighty motor isn't quite enough. The engineers have designed this special edition Viper with aerodynamic elements to provide additional downforce at both axles. The car also features a robust 10-setting adjustable suspension. It's amazing that this track-ready snake has been kept in a garage its whole life. One could only hope the new owner, having paid $402,000 for it through a BaT auction, will use it the way it was intended!
