Blow the Top

Fewer than 2,000 of these cars were produced in 1971, which makes them prized among classic Mopar fans and collectors alike. It’s unknown exactly how many have survived but is likely to be less than half of the original production number. At first glance, the striking violet color is assumed to be a modern repaint, but in fact, “Plum Crazy” is the car’s original color scheme, made even more striking thanks to a triple-lined racing stripe. The car’s freshly reupholstered creamy white interior plays stylishly off the black carpeted floor.

Don't Let Up

While most restored vehicles are outfitted with contemporary audio systems, this '71 has it's factory original AM/FM radio on board, something traditionalists will love. The recognizable three-spoke steering wheel is also factory original. And while the tunes will sizzle just like they did back in 1971, the interior won't —the car's air conditioning system has been replaced —which means your summertime cruising will always stay comfortable.

Hit the Gas

The "Challenger" moniker was initially conceived as a name for the base trim model Dodge Coronet, which debuted in 1949. But by the '70s, the name had taken on a sportier connotation, replacing the Dodge Challenger Deputy. The car debuted with a choice of a straight-six or V8 engine. This particular model is the latter, powered by a born 318 cubic-inch V8 with the original displacement still in the engine bay.

Take a Shot

The car’s roof is power operated and closes in under two minutes, making for quick transitions whether you’re heading from the main street to the highway or when the skies begin to open up. No matter what the weather conditions, every ride is smooth thanks to brand new superwide Futura GLS brand Supra Sport tires.
