1. Popularity Reasons

It is not quite clear why the Japanese love the mid-90s Dodge vans. However, a video posted by Noriyaro explained the vans became popular originally because motorcycle racers wanted vehicles that can haul their bikes and equipment, which evolved in them modifying and upgrading these vans.

2. Racing the Vans

After the motorcycle racers got deeper into modifying their vans, they had to start proving to each other why their vans are better, which can only be settled by racing the vans against each other. The van-racing movement slowly evolved and became the center of the attention. What was once used as a vehicle to haul motorcycles and their gears, became a cult all of their own.

The common vans here are decorated with various colors, and some of them carry numerous advertisements. These sponsors include American companies as well as native Japanese brands. Many of the vans are known to have eight-spoke rims, which is influenced by classic Japanese cars. Finally, the vans are mostly equipped with the 5.2-L V8 Magnum engine.
