Viper GTS-R

We kick off our list of the greatest Dodge racing cars with the Viper GTS-R. Made famous by the Gran Turismo video game series, this GT2 class entrant saw competition in everything from IMSA to the 24 Hours of Le Mans—where they cleaned house. Outright victories in the 24 Hours of Nurburgring came thanks to team Zakspeed. ORECA was also a powerhouse that ran these cars with tremendous success, but it all came thanks to the brilliant design of the Viper in the first place.

Challenger Drag Pack

One of the best things about Dodge is that they put the customer first. Unlike many European companies who tell you what you want, Dodge lets the customer dictate a large part of what they create. And, when it comes to the Challenger, we all like to go fast, so it’s only fitting they created the Track Pack. These machines are more than capable straight from the factory, clocking off 8 to 9-second quarter mile runs which makes them one of the fastest production vehicles you can buy. Substantial performance by any measure, but then again we all expect nothing less from this muscle car automaker.

Pro Stock Daytona

Darrell Alderman was a bit of a wild man, and his Pro Stock Daytona was no exception to that. The three-time champion preferred the Daytona as his weapon of choice during the 1991 Championship where he took outright victory in the final round. In a gripping finish, the Dodge took the win after Warren Johnson got a better launch on him. Thanks to the Mopar power under the hood, Alderman was able to pull ahead just before the finish line. This was a clinic in amazing racing that wouldn’t have been possible without Dodge power.

Buddy Baker Charger

How can you not love Buddy Baker’s Charger? It’s damn near impossible to. Way back in 1970, this exact car became the first one to exceed 200mph around Talladega. It is reasonable to say the rear wing on the back of the car was doing next to nothing, but who cares? Buddy certainly didn’t and neither did anyone after the record was set. Dodge has been at the forefront of many records in NASCAR and this is just one example of how strong the MOPAR badge is. It doesn’t hurt either that this car looks gorgeous, either.

Swamp Rat 14

Besides having a pretty cool name, the Swamp Rat 14 was one of the most innovative drag cars of all time. The reason this car makes the list is that it literally changed the face of drag racing as we know it. After a horrific accident in a front-engine car, Don Garlits decided to relocate the engine of his drag car to the back. At that moment the Swamp Rat 14 was born. In 1970 he would go on to break the track record in Florida with a 6.80 pass. The mid-engine car would go on to pave the way for drag cars decades after its inception. This car was massively fast and changed everything at the time. To his credit, Garlits was the mastermind behind it all.
