Slideshow: Ram Rebel TRX to Come with Choices

Every day we are faced with countless decisions ranging from the mundane to the sometimes life-altering. One of those choices that some of us will have to deal with is, which engine you will pick to go inside your Rebel TRX?

There can be only... two?

For those of you were not satisfied with the changes that Dodge made to the 2019 Ram 1500 including styling cues from the Rebel TRX concept, rejoice because you won't have to wait long. Inside sources say that we can expect to see not just the fire-breathing Rebel TRX but also a lighter version with the TR package as soon as 2021. Dodge has poised one of the two choices to be the most powerful production pickup ever made. Don't worry about the "lighter" version because it is only referred to as such because it will only smack you in the face as opposed to ripping it off like the TRX will.

Power or even more power

Hyperbole aside, one of the multiple engine choices is said to be the 520 horsepower NA 7.0-liter Banshee and the other being the 707 horsepower supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that's currently in the Hellcat siblings / Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. While these numbers could change once the trucks get closer to showrooms, it does sound like the mark that Dodge wants to match the output of the Trackhawk. However, unlike the cars listed previously, the TRX was designed to curb stomp the F-150 Raptor as a high flying, rip-roaring, triple-digit speeding pickup with a wide stance and long travel suspension.

By the way, word on the street is that Ford could be bringing a V8 back to the Raptor in an attempt to combat any challengers. Hmm...

Tin foil hat time

Dodge has been playfully hinting at a 707-horsepower Ram when in the 2019 Ram 1500's official press photos there is a Uconnect system clock that was at 7:07. FCA engineers have been known to hide Easter eggs previously across several brands and products pointing towards other offerings. Rumors such as this further solidify that Ram will be going forward with working on a Hellcat-powered pickup.

Ruthless aggression

The new Rebel TRX was built to be capable and would definitely make for an awesome statement truck. Sadly, Fiat Chrysler still is mum on the topic with a spokesman declining to comment on any future plans when asked. We wonder if the Rebel will be in different flavors due to different terrain focuses? What I mean is that the TRX could be a leviathan roaming from block to block looking for its next kill while the TR would be made for off-road dune raging.

So here's the question...

We haven't gotten word of what the suspension systems could be for either of the Rebel offerings in addition to what the pricing could be. The million dollar question so to speak is, if both the Rebel TRX and TR are for sale, which one would you go for if they were only 15-20K apart? I came upon this figure by looking at the difference between the Grand Cherokee SRT and the Trackhawk pricing along with a healthy dose of leeway. However, do remember that the price of the 2018 Trackhawk has a starting mark of $86,000.
