Is the Choice of a Retro Paint Job an Excuse to Buy a Charger or Challenger?
Earlier this year, Dodge's SRT performance division announced it planned to bring back the company’s heritage-inspired Sublime color, making it available for the first time on all 2019 Dodge Charger and Challenger models. Is that enough of a reason why you should go out and by a brand-new Dodge Challenger or Charger? Click through and you can be the judge of that.
How far back does this retro color go?
Believe it or not, this heritage-inspired Sublime green goes way back – like way, way, way back. The year 1970 is when Dodge first introduced this unique shade of lime/green on most of its vehicles. There was a limited run on it, though, and the color did not reappear until 2007 on some Charger R/T Dayton vehicles. After that, it wasn’t until 2015 that we saw the color again, this time being made available on all Challengers. Finally, Sublime came back in 2017, appearing on the limited-edition Ram 1500 Sport pickup.

What do the folks at Dodge have to say about this release?
Here’s what Steve Beahm, head of FCA’s passenger car brands in North America, had to say when the new color was announced for the 2019 lineup at the Chicago Auto Show: “Our Dodge//SRT muscle cars give our customers what they want, an incredibly wide variety of performance models and high-impact color options. Whether it’s Sublime paint, all-wheel-drive capability, or 797 horsepower, Charger and Challenger stand out. By bringing back a high-impact color like Sublime across the 2019 Challenger and Charger lineups, we’re continuing to give our enthusiast customers another way to make their muscle cars even more unique when they showcase the legendary Dodge performance attitude.”

So, does this new / old color justify buying a brand new Challenger or Charger?
Outside of the flashy, head-turning range of colors that Dodge has to offer buyers, the company also produces some pretty powerful, performance-driven vehicles. And truth be told, a Charger or Challenger is not terribly priced. The MSRP for a standard 2019 Dodge Charger which, by the way, comes with nearly 300HP as a baseline, is approximately $30,000. The 2019 Challenger on the other hand which, for comparative purposes comes with 305HP and more depending on the model you get, starts at $27,800. So, if you like the green, then you can feel good spending some green on one of these cars. (Oh, and they’re available now!)
