Drive for Design

Recently, Fiat Chrysler hosted a sketch contest on its Facebook page asking members of the public to come up with their thoughts on what a futuristic Ram might look like. Unsurprisingly, a lot of artists jumped in and provided some pretty wild, sometimes outrageous, and oftentimes downright cool sketches. FCA kicked things off with their own awesome artwork, a modernized version of the classic Rampage car-based pickup pictured above.

Wide Range

The sketch showdown lasted a mere one day and was judged by FCA Head of Design Ralph Gilles and Mopar and Ram Truck Head of Exterior Design Mark Trostle. Regardless, over 200 designs were submitted from all over the world, and the results were rather impressive. Many of the proposed vehicles featured a host of retro styling elements, while others looked like they were just transported here from some futuristic sci-fi movie.

Electric Power

Those submissions included, of course, at least a couple of electric-powered Ram pickup concepts. Which were keen to show off the packaging advantages offered up by EV power, mainly more cab and bed space than traditional trucks currently boast. And several of them certainly looked like something you'd sooner see on The Jetsons than cruising down your local highway.

Rampage Resurrection

FCA's Rampage concept rendering inspired a number of additional tries at resurrecting the old nameplate, too. Many of them simply worked to transform a Charger or Challenger into a pickup of sorts, but this particular example featured a wholly unique design that fits quite nicely with the brand's current styling cues.

Past and Present

Then there was this wild Ram concept that looks more like a moon rover than an earth-bound pickup. The cab-over design is certainly a nod to the past, along with the familiar Ram grille design. But the rest of this crazy concept is decidedly futuristic and quickly became a favorite of the FCA judges.

More Realistic

Others, like this very cool Ram rendering, are a bit more realistic. This particular truck could certainly make it in today's world, offering up a compelling and contemporary design that doesn't go too far over the top. And to us, it still screams "Ram" when you first glance at it.

Wild Mashups

Finally, we have this wild mashup of a Challenger and crew cab truck that looks like it could be a mid-sizer, a la the Dakota. And this is just a sampling of the many cool concepts FCA's Drive for Design contest inspired. You can (and should) check out the rest by heading over to FCA's North American Facebook page
