Dodge Durango Goes Into A Staggering 17th Model Year With HEMI Focus
While a larger refresh is expected later in the decade, Dodge is keeping its three-row muscle SUV relevant with new trims, packages, and personalization choices.
Familiar Formula
The Dodge Durango will continue largely unchanged for the 2027 model year, carrying forward the same platform and powertrain lineup that has defined the SUV for years. Although Dodge has confirmed that a refreshed Durango is planned before the end of the decade, the current model receives only modest updates focused on appearance, comfort, and customization.
In a market increasingly dominated by smaller turbocharged engines and electrified powertrains, the Durango remains one of the few three-row SUVs that still embraces large-displacement V8 power. That approach continues unchanged for 2027.
V8 Power Remains
The engine lineup carries over intact, ranging from the standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 producing 295 horsepower to the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 found in the SRT Hellcat, which delivers 710 horsepower. The heart of the Durango lineup remains its HEMI-powered models.
The GT HEMI uses a 5.7-liter V8 generating 360 horsepower, while the R/T 392 steps up to a naturally aspirated 6.4-liter V8 producing 475 horsepower. At the top sits the Hellcat, capable of launching from 0 to 60 mph in roughly 3.5 seconds while retaining a maximum towing capacity of up to 8,700 pounds.
Brass Monkey Debuts
One of the biggest visual additions for 2027 is the new Brass Monkey package available on the GT HEMI. The package adds distinctive bronze-themed styling elements, including 20-inch Brass Monkey wheels and black "345" fender badges accented with brass trim.
Buyers who select the Tow 'n Go package can also upgrade to forged wheels, further enhancing the performance-oriented appearance. The package gives the entry-level V8 model a more aggressive look without requiring buyers to move into the more expensive R/T 392 or Hellcat trims.
New R/T 392 Plus
Dodge has expanded the R/T 392 lineup by introducing a new Plus trim level positioned between existing models. The R/T 392 Plus focuses primarily on comfort and interior upgrades. It adds Nappa leather seating surfaces, leather-wrapped armrests, a leather-covered center-console lid, ventilated front seats, heated front and second-row seats, and a power sunroof.
Black roof rails with integrated Stow 'n Place crossbars are also included. The addition gives buyers a more premium version of the naturally aspirated 392-powered Durango without moving into the top-spec Premium trim.
More Appearance Options
Several new customization choices are also available across the R/T 392 range. Buyers can now select red seat belts, optional yellow Brembo brake calipers, and additional Brass Monkey wheel designs. Dodge is also introducing a new Blacktop Redline package for Plus and Premium models. That package adds forged 20-inch Y-spoke wheels, a front splitter, and a six-passenger interior configuration.
Inside, the cabin receives Crypto Sweep trim accents along with a mix of Nappa leather and suede upholstery. The package is intended to give the performance-focused SUV a more distinctive appearance while retaining everyday practicality.
Jailbreak Expands Again
The range-topping SRT Hellcat remains largely unchanged mechanically, but Dodge has significantly expanded customization possibilities through its Jailbreak program. According to the automaker, the latest Jailbreak configuration options create more than 14 million possible combinations.
New wheel designs join the catalog, while buyers can now choose a six-passenger cabin featuring black Nappa leather and suede seating surfaces. The expanded personalization program allows owners to create a Durango that stands apart from other Hellcat models without altering the vehicle's core performance credentials.
New Security Measures
Beyond styling and trim changes, Dodge has introduced a practical technology update designed to address vehicle theft concerns. All 2027 Durango models receive what Dodge describes as a "digital deadbolt" system. The feature is intended to reduce the risk of unauthorized key pairing and key-fob duplication, two methods commonly used in modern vehicle thefts. While less visible than new wheels or interior upgrades, the added security may prove to be one of the most meaningful changes for owners.
New Color, Familiar Pricing
Every 2027 Durango is now available in a new Pitch Black exterior finish, further expanding personalization choices across the lineup. Pricing remains relatively stable. Dodge has confirmed a starting price of $43,675 for the GT HEMI, while the new R/T 392 begins at $50,995. The R/T 392 Plus starts at $54,595, and the SRT Hellcat carries a base price of $80,495.
Buyers seeking maximum customization through the Jailbreak program will pay $81,490. For now, the Durango continues to occupy a unique niche in the SUV market. While many rivals have moved toward smaller engines and electrification, Dodge's three-row SUV enters 2027 by doubling down on the formula that has kept it relevant: V8 power, strong towing capability, and nearly endless personalization options.
