Beneath the Surface

Underneath the Prius shell, you won’t find any eco-friendly batteries or charging ports. Instead, what you’ll find is a 6.2L V8 that has an aftermarket twin screw style supercharger that bumps power from a stock 707hp to over 800hp. With the power-to-weight ratio of an Olympic bodybuilder, the Prius is seriously quick through the quarter mile. In fact, it’s so fast it manages to run…

For references purposes that’s faster than a Porsche 918, McLaren P1, Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, and Hennessey Venom GT by a good margin. That power-to-weight ratio is only part of the story behind the speed as well. In order to catapult this bird of freedom down the drag strip, the guys at American Racing Headers slapped the fastest set of Mickey Thompson drag slicks they could fit underneath the army green bodywork. When the car's weight transfers to the rear tires, it’s lights out to the competition.

They See me Trollin’

What’s the point of this car? Political incorrectness, according to Nick who started the company. He was tired of seeing guys flying by him in the HOV in hybrids while he was stuck in bumper to bumper traffic and wanted to do something about it. If running 9s is the solution to Prii in the carpool lane, then I think we should put Nick in charge of the DOT tomorrow!

Double Header

To build a car that pulls consistent 9-second passes requires a strong understanding of how air flows through an engine. With its primary business being header development — it is in the name after all — American Racing Headers have intimate knowledge of how air flows in and out of an engine for maximum horsepower and torque. Each time they ran the car it became significantly faster, even managing their best time on the last pass of the day. Outside of the Box

Often times in the car industry performance is sacrificed to make an aesthetic statement with a vehicle. In instances where performance is the #1 goal you often see similar things from one build to the next. Variety isn’t exactly the name of the game. However, the American Racing Header PriuSRT8 is something that really does both while being entertaining to watch as a spectator. It has Gallup pole-breaking audacity and absurdity that make it all the more appealing once you find out just how fast it is. Favorite car of 2018? Probably so.
