Armored Hellcats Because Why the Hell Not?!

Not Barney Fife's Patrol Car

Police vehicles have come a long way since the days of my childhood, when Plymouth, Ford Galaxy, and the LTD were the standard. A recent announcement that Utah-based Armormax had come out with its latest armored vehicle inspired mind-flashes of the Rezvani Tank Military Edition, the BearCat G3, and even the Ford Explorer Interceptor. I was not expecting to hear that their new armored vehicle would be a Charger SRT Hellcat. Now police departments around the country can opt for the meanest car on the streets.

Papal-like protection

Armormax offers four different armed protection levels, including B7, which is the highest rating on the Armormax scale. The B7 level basically means that if you were to find yourself in the middle of sniper crossfire, this would be the vehicle you'd want protecting you. Armormax uses a combination of light synthetic fiber laminates and air hardened, heat treated ballistic alloys to keep our men and women in uniform well protected.  These laminates and alloys go into the doors, roof, pillars, and floor of the car, and you can also get ballistic glass.

Police specs

The bulletproof paneling can also protect your battery, radiator, fuel tank, and ECU. Armormax will also install police-spec lighting, ballistic armored glass, a push bar, reinforced suspension, and run-flat tires. Obviously, all of this protection is going to cost you in weight gains, but a 6.2 liter supercharged V-8 isn't going to be affected by a little extra pounds around the midsection.

All Wheel Drive? For Real?

You want AWD? You got it! Amormax is happy to outfit your Hellcat with AWD, which means that you will experience 707 hp hitting all four of your wheels. Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles have never come as AWD for its Hellcat models, so this is a pretty special car equipped to chase anything down in its path.

Highway (Patrol) Robbery

Other trick options Armormax offers include bomb blankets and an exterior listening device for covert operations.

Pricing is on an individual quote basis, but it's likely that the final tally easily crests $100,000, especially for those that opt for AWD. The 2018 Charger SRT Hellcat starts at $65,345 before Armormax gets its hands on it. Clearly, the Hellcat doesn't come cheap, which makes me think that if crime doesn't pay, the good guys sure will.
