Drive it Like You Stole it

The 1,000-horsepower custom modified Challenger on display at the ProCharger booth at the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) Show in Las Vegas, Nevada gives a new meaning to the phrase, drive it like you stole it.  The Challenger, which was built to show at SEMA was stolen from a casino parking lot near the SEMA display hall that was being used for overflow parking at the time.

Too Fast to Catch

Quintin Brothers Auto and Performance in Vermont modified the Challenger to produce an incredible amount of power.  The vehicle was capable of producing 1,000hp at the time of the theft.  Nevada State Police tracked the stolen muscle car down and found it in a parking garage a few hours after it was taken.  When they cornered the thief (still behind the wheel) he rammed into a squad car and sped off.

Grand Theft Auto

After escaping the parking garage, the thief crashed through a fence and drove onto a karting track while go-karts zipped around the runaway Challenger.  The thief drove away from the track and eventually abandoned the car.  Police found the Challenger sometime later.  While the car thief managed to escaped the scene, the cops nabbed him on November 5 after he allegedly shot someone outside of a grocery store.  Thankfully, the victim didn’t receive any life-threatening injuries.

The Show Must Go on

Quintin Brothers Auto and Performance decided that the thief wasn’t going to steal their time in the spotlight.  He may have stolen, trashed and crashed the car (the Challenger’s cockpit was littered with fast food cups and paper wrappers) but he wasn’t going to ruin their spot at SEMA too.  Quintin Brothers Auto and Performance brought the crashed Challenger, along with some fresh police line tape to the ProCharger Booth, bringing their hard work and an exciting story to put on display.

Bringing the Heat

Even the police showed up for the event.  Nevada State Trooper Adam Whitmarsh, the officer whose car was struck by the getaway Challenger appeared with fellow officers involved with the chase and eventual apprehension of the thief.  The end result is bittersweet.  It’s sad to see such a beautiful car with so much power get stolen and crashed but it’s remarkable to watch Quintin Brothers Auto and Performance regain their vehicle and steal the show for themselves.
