Most of us have been locked out at one point or another. If you're looking for a way to unlock your truck, there are not many safe options available. You're best option is to call a professional locksmith. They've had training and use special equipment that can safely unlock your truck without causing any serious damage. Your second best option is to call the police department, but they may not come right away and there's no guarantee that they'll be able to unlock your truck without damaging it. But if you're in a hurry to get your truck unlocked, there's a way to open it using just the everyday items you have lying around. Keep reading to learn how to "break into" your Dodge Ram.

Materials Needed

  • Coat hanger or pick tool
  • Cloth
  • Wedge
  • Pliers (optional)

Step 1 – Make a tool out of a coat hanger

Take a coat hanger and cut it at the base of the hanger part, then bend it until it is completely straight. Bend a section about a half inch from the end to make a hook. A long pick tool should work as well.

Step 2 – Unlock the truck

Stand up in the bed of the truck if you need a better vantage point. Wrap a cloth around your wedge so it doesn't scratch the truck. Push the wedge into the far corner of the door until it creates a small gap. Then slip the coat hanger between the roof of the truck and the window. You may have to wiggle it a little to get it inside. Carefully lower the coat hanger until it reaches the lock and slip it between the lock and the door panel. Get the hook around the lock then pull it up. It will take a few tries, but it should work eventually.

Pro Tip

If you're worried the wedge might damage the truck, there is a tool available called a pump wedge. How it works is you insert it into to the door and start pumping air into it. It will expand and open the door a crack, allowing you to get inside with a coat hanger or pick. This is the tool professional locksmiths use and it will be much safer to use on your truck.
