The Dodge Stratus is a mid sized four-door sedan that was first introduced for the 1995 model year. The Dodge Stratus was based on the Chrysler JA platform, which is shared with the Chrysler Cirrus and Plymouth Breeze. The Dodge Stratus is an attractive vehicle that made the Car and Driver Ten Best List: for both 1996 and 1997.
The first generation of the Stratus was introduced to the market in two models, which were the SE, which came with a 2.0 litre I4 and had an optional 2.4 litre I4. There was also the ES that came standard with the 2.4 litre I4 and offered an optional 2.5 litre v6. Features on all the vehicles offered automatic transmissions, anti-lock brakes, tilt steering wheel, cruise control, power windows, power door locks, power driver's seat, leather seats, power antenna, CD player, sunroof, alarm, keyless entry, as well as a five speed manual transmission.
The second generation of the Dodge Stratus was produced from 2001 until 2006 model years. Though the similar Cirrus and the Breeze had been discontinued, the Stratus was still going strong. The new generation was built on the JR platform. The sedan and coupe versions were offered in the second generation as they were in the first until 2005 when the coupe version was dropped altogether. Reports suggest that the Stratus will be dropped from the Dodge lineup in 2007, though the related Sebring will continue. The Stratus will ultimately be replaced by a vehicle named the GS.
