A full size van, the Dodge Ram Van was marketed under the Dodge brand name by the Chrysler Corporation along with DaimlerChrysler. The Ram Van was most well known as a cargo van but was also available in a passenger van variant named the Dodge Ram Wagon. The Ram Van was the last of the short wheel base cargo and passenger vans on the market as
Ford,
Chevy, and
GMC all pulled their comparable vans off the market.
The Dodge Ram Van was built on the B platform which would later be renamed the AB platform and were available starting in the 1971 model year. The cargo variant of the Dodge Ram Van was marketed as the Dodge Tradesman and the passenger vans were known to the consumer as the Dodge Sportsman, both names were replaced by the Ram nameplate starting in 1979. Plymouth marketed a van that is similar to the Sportsman, which was named the Voyager starting in the 1974 model year. The Plymouth version was never nearly as popular as the Dodge, though the model was sold until 1983 when the Voyager name was transferred to the minivan of 1984. While the Ram Van and Ram Wagon were somewhat popular, they were replaced with the 2003 model of the Dodge Sprinter.
