The Dodge Nitro is an SUV that will be introduced by Dodge for the 2007 model year. Officially launched at the Chicago Auto Show, Dodge is very excited about the Nitro as it will be well priced and will be one of the first
Dodge vehicles to be sold in Europe as well as the United States. The Nitro shares its platform with the Jeep Liberty and will be assembled at the Jeep Facility in Toledo South Assembly plant.
The Nitro will be sold for less than $20,000, which will make it a viable option for those that have not yet been able to afford an SUV. The Nitro is assembled at the Toledo North Assembly Plant in Toledo, Ohio which is the same place where the Jeep Wrangler has been built since the 1940s. The Dodge Nitro will feature rear wheel drive and all wheel drive will be optional on all models of the Nitro. The Nitro SUV will also feature Load N Go sliding cargo floors, which will allow consumers to extend the floor through the rear hatch. The Load N Go feature is similar to the Saab 9-5 station wagon.
The Nitro will be offered in three trim levels with are the base model, the SLT and the R/T. Two V6 engine options will be available to start with, including one that is a new generation 4.0 litre engine that will likely replace the 3.5 litre V6 in a good portion of the Chrysler lineup. Dodge expects to add the 2.4 litre GEMA four cylinder engine by the end of 2006.
