The
Dodge Avenger is actually the name of three distinct vehicles. Those three vehicles are the Dodge Avenger coupe, which was available from 1995-2000, the Dodge Avenger Concept car that was shown in 2003, and the Dodge Avenger sedan, which will be released sometime in 2007 to renew the Avenger name once again.
The first generation of the Dodge Avenger was the Dodge Avenger coupe that was produced from 1995 until 2000 and was on a stretched Mitsubishi Galant platform. The Avenger used a 2.0 liter or 2.5 litre V6 engine and was either a five speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic. This same engine was used for the Mitsubishi Eclipse and the Eagle Talon. The 2000 Avenger was eventually discontinued and renamed the Stratus coupe.
The Avenger will return to the Dodge lineup in 2007 to replace the aged Stratus design and breathe a breath of fresh air into the Dodge lineup. The Avenger will again share a Mitsubishi platform as will the Sebring. The platform will be stretched and will be known as the JS. The Avenger will be available with a four cylinder and a six cylinder, though some models may only be available in specific markets.
