Dodge Intrepid

The Dodge Intrepid
Dodge Intrepid
The Dodge Intrepid is a four door full size sedan. The Intrepid is closely linked to the Chrysler Concorde and the Eagle Vision and offers front wheel drive. The Dodge Intrepid was also sold as the Chrysler Intrepid in Canada. The Intrepid did well with consumers and had two generations of vehicles.

The first generation of the Dodge Intrepid began in 1993 and continued until 1997. The Intrepid was available in two trim levels which were the base and the better equipped ES. The ES added four wheel disk brakes, 16 inch wheels and better tires, and a stiffer suspension. Both trim levels featured driver and front passenger airbags, air conditioning, and a four speed automatic transmission. Anti-lock brakes were an option for both trim levels as was traction control and a 3.5 litre single overhead cam engine. The first generation did not experience many changes from year to year the most mentionable was the power steering rack in 1994 that allowed for easier parking, the upgraded susenpsion was eventually made standard, and Anti-lock brakes were made standard for all ES vehicles.

The second generation of the Dodge Intrepid ran from 1998 until 2004. The design was different from the ground up and were very well received by consumers and critics. All of the engines were replaced by two aluminum units which were a DOHC 2.7 litre V6 for the base model and a SOHC 3.2 litre V6 for the ES edition. The base model of the Intrepid continued to use a four speed automatic while the ES model boasted the AutoStick.

In 2000 Dodge introduced a new R/T model which offered a 3.5 litre V6 that produced 244 horsepower and a 3.2 litre was reduced to an option in the ES at the same time. In 2003 the top of the line R/T model was replaced by the SXT which offered a 250 horsepower rating from a 3.5 litre V6. Unfortunately, the popularity for the Intrepid decreased over time and in 2004 the Intrepid was retired to make way for new rear wheel drive vehicles.
