I've got an 05 Dakota Laramie 4x4 Quad cab and the past week the engine has shut off a number of times when coming to a stop. It seems that the idle speed gets too low when coming to a stop. Has anyone had this problem? If so, is something I can do or do I need to take it in for warranty work?

Warranty work, I had the same porblem too it to the dealer and had my PCM re-flashed with new software upgrades. It's a flaw with the software that was origonally put during production, they usually provide the upgrade the first time it's in.......... Check with your dealer.

My 06 Raider does this and Mitsu has no software upgread. Do you have a TSB or something that talks about this. I have had my PCM, Cam Sensor, and Crank sensor replacedand nothing fixed it.

I believe the PCM programming is the same for both so the Dodge reflash might work for you if you can get them to do it.

I called the dealership shop, this afternoon, and theysaid that it is "probably" the spark plugs since I didn't change them out at 30K. I've got 35K on the truck now. The rep had stated that since "Check Engine Light" didn't come on that it was probably a maintenance thing. I've had many vehiclesand I've never changed the spark splugs and they ran "Great" with over 100K. And they where Dodge.
Today, after I talked withdealership, I had mytruck in the driveway, in park, and it wasidleing at 750 rpmsand thenit woulddrop down to 400rpms. It kept cycling like this for about 20mins until Iturned it off.
To me it doesn't sound like"Spark plugs".
I've got an appt. on Monday, Oct. 1st. to have them look at this but any info would be great!!!!

Could always try changing the plugs, they don't cost much. My integra took a set of plugs every 10-15k or it would start running like total crap (MSD ignition ate the plugs a lot faster)

your idle port on the throttle body may be dirty and the idle motor may be trying to get the air flow correct but cant, thus the surging. You can clean these very easy by removing the plastic intake baffle that runs between your air cleaner and throttle body. Then using basic carb cleaner, start the motor and lightly spray the idle port( located on the lower right of the throttle body). I've done this with a previous dak but at higher millage(70K) and it fixed it. worth a try.

I'm pretty sure I saw a thread a few weeks ago about this same problem. The solution: go to the dealer and have the PCM reflashed. Problem solved.
I forget where the thread is and I'm too busy to look, but it should be here somewhere.

New plugs did not fix mine. Anyone have info on the PCM reprogram. Mitsu has not heard of it. A TSB # or something I can tell them. I sure a Dodge dealer would charge me to do it, if they do it at all.

Mine is doing it still as well. Had taken it to the dealership several times over the past year with stalling issues, every time they would tell me they didn't pull any codes or find anything wrong. Out of nowhere at my last oil change they come to me and say my TB is dirty and needs $174 cleaning and that was causing my stalling. I said isn't this covered under warranty and they said no it is caused by water in the gas. I have used the same BP gas station by my house for the past 7 years and never had a problem with any vehicle and I've had around 6 different ones in that time. I ended up cleaning it out myself and it was filthy but even after cleaning it the truck still idles like it has a big cam in it. Kind of embarrassing when the wife's minivan idles smoother than a V8. If anyone finds anything out let me know as well. I'm sick of this!

Oh yeah I changed the plugs as well, 24k miles and they were almost completely gone.

This might be the TSB, I'm not positive.

I had the same problem. No codes came up, but the stealership said that the EGR valves in our Dak's are known to malfunction. They chnaged it under warranty and I've had no problems since. That was 2 months ago. I don't know if it actually fixed the problem our it'sjust pure coincidence.

The key phrase here........ I took it to the dealer or dealer said this......... Where's that "service manager" when you need one. If I'm not mistaken every time the dealer "fixes" something they re-flash the PCM to make the PCM aware of the new part or numbers that would come up so it doesn't throw a code. If they fixed a EGR valve then quite possibly they might of re-flashed the PCM in the process? I would put money that TSB is not only for the 05's but the 06's as well. Mine is an 06 with 31k and the only time it's given me a problem is when it wouldnt stop stalling. PCM re-flash with new software at 21k never had a problem since. I also baby the damned thing anywayz, oil change, tire rotation, premium fuel, preimum oil, premium filters, spark plugs every 15k, dropped the tranny had it serviced with new fluid and the works at 28k. I've put more money in my truck then I have quiet possibly anywhere else besides my home........
Anyway, Thank you Altair for putting forth the effort and finding the TSB. I didnt have the patience to search the other day.

I had the same porblem with my 05 dak, I took it to the dealer and they told me I had a bad EGR valve, had it replced under warranty and the porblem has not come back, it's been about a year now. Maybe have them check that out if they haven't already

Thanks for all the responses! The dealer changed the plugs and cleaned the Throttle body and it has corrected the problem. Crazy how it's under warranty and have to deal with that. Oh well, I still love the truck.

Did the dealer charge you to clean the Throttle Body or did they do that under warranty? I ask because my dealer said my TB was dirty from water in the gas and wanted me to pay them $150 to clean it. I only use BP gas from this one station near my house and have used it for 6 years in all my cars and never had any problems before.

The did charge me even though it was under Warranty. They said it was a maintenance issue. I don't agree with that since the 3year/36,000 mile warranty states that it is bumper to bumper. They charged me $59 to clean the TB and $89 to change the spark plugs so for both it was about $160. $150 seems steep to clean a TB.

Man, you should've told them to leave the spark plugs alone and did em yourself. It cost me about $8 when I bought new plugs for mine, $89 is a freakin rip-off.

I called both Dodge dealers in my town and neither one knew about or could find any TSB for a stalling problem. Could those of you whom have had this done try to get some info from your dealer please. The TSB posted above does not talk about a stalling problem.

I was told by my dealer the cause of the stalling was that the PCM needed an upgrade,Altair found the TSB for the upgrade, it does not say however it is used to solve the stalling problem, so that is where they get ya...... If ya think about it the whole system is designed to get the most money out of you, did you honestly think they would put it in plain english in the TSB so that if anyone could read it they could go I want a free re-flash?

Yes I did. Mitsu does. All their TSB's are for the Tech's so they don't beat around the bush. They say here is the problem and here is the fix. Why can't Dodge do that?[:@]

Sorry if I missed the post somewhere, I did search. Have any of you cleaned your own TB on a 2006 V6 Dakota? My brother is having problems with his truck stalling (around 30,000 miles) and wanted to give this a try. Any info on what you all use and how you go about cleaning it would greatly be appreciated. I will also try to see if I can get the dealer to do the PCM flash. Also the spark plugs have been changed and all regular maint. has been done.

I also have this rough idling issue with my '05, 4.7 liter Dakota. My engine light came on because of the EGR which the dealer replaced. This did nothing with the idle. I ended up replacing the spark plugs which didn't do anything either. While I had the ducting off I decided to clean out the throttle body. I had one of those straws you attach to the nozzle of a spray can on the carb cleaner nozzle. I opened the throttle and sprayed away. Unfortunately, the straw went flying straight into the intake. I spent the next 5 hours trying to get it out. I used mirrors, a "see snake" rented from Home Depot, my wife's hand, sticky stuff on the end of a wire, shop vac. No luck. I had to have my shop remove the entire intake plenum, injectors and everything on top to finally get that freakin straw out of my engine. I won't make that $180 mistake again. My warranty is up in about a week. I'm taking the truck in on 4/17 to have them replace the outer tie-rods. I'll ask them about this idle issue and forward what they tell me.
