I've been thinking about trading my truck in for a car.  Something with lower payments and much better on gas.  This will help with some of my money issues.

Well, I went to a Dodge dealership yesterday, and I'll tell you now that it'll be the last time I ever go to that one, but they told me that my truck is only worth $12,000.  Now if that's so, then the Daks aren't holding their value at all and aren't worth having, but I know that's not true.

A couple of months ago I was on Dodge's website and it valued my truck to be about $20,000 when I was comparing trucks.  I told the salesman that there's no way my truck's value was that low.  It's almost in perfect shape and the cosmetic stuff that i put on it would help out a bit more than what they're saying.

I went to kelly blue book yesterday and it said that the ST with the 3.7L was only worth $11,500.

So, hmmmm, my truck, which is the Laramie, with a lot more options in it is only worth $500.00 more than an ST?  Does that make sense?  When I traded in my first Dak, it was a 99 Sport loaded extended cab and only had about 60,000 miles on it and it was six years old when I traded it in and the blue book on it at the time was $11,000.

What it comes down to for me is that they didn't want my truck or my business at that dealership.

Oh well.... Sorry for the rant.  Just irritated.

12, is a bs offer! I just traded in my dakota 05 SLT quad cab v8 magnum last night for my charger.

However, My front bumper was broken cracked and all 3 pieces need to be replaced, on top of that when the bumper got damaged it pulled the left side of the frame a little bit and made that crease by the door much larger, so likely there was frame damage. That being said with all this information, they still gave me 13k, KBB  on my truck in excellent condition was 15 or so.  Regarding your mods, a lot of dealers won't give much for certain mods, because they don't give a crap, I had a expensive lo-jack in the truck and didn't get any consideration for it, they told me if I had rim's they would think about it.

Anyways short story, on trade in's you gotta stand firm, or make them lower their sticker price to account for the lowball offer. When i got my truck first appraised by carmax they told me 10k with that damage, I laughed and walked out since car was pristine other than that and only had 23k miles on it. Im sure you could get 14-15 at least on a trade in maybe more.

I traded in a 2000 chevy silverado extended cab long bed z71 4x4 for my 05 dakota. I knew using kelly blue book that my truck was worth at least 12 grand. The dealer offered me 9500 and I told them no deal and started to walk out. The salesman stopped me and talked to his boss again. The sales manager came in and said we will give you 12,500 and waived all the prep costs if I accepted. You have to stand firm when it comes to a trade in. Get what the vehicle is worth or walk away and find a better dealership. I think I got lucky though since chevys are more desirable I guess.

Just looked at kelly blue book. I have a 2005 dakota slt 4x4 with V8 and auto trans and 23990 miles. The trade in value is 15,300. The price the dealer would likely sell it for is 21,100 and if I sold it on my own I should ask for 18,145.  If I was to trade in my truck with all the stuff I added I would want at least 16,000 and I would shop around until I get that amount even if I had to go to 100 dealers to get it.

If there is one nearby, go to Carmax.

They will give you fair price and not jack you around, you can then take the money or turn around and by a car from them.
They gave me a *much* better price when I traded in my wife's 2003 accord for a 2005...

carmax in LA offered 3k less than the dodge dealership did last night. Word of note, when trading just tell the dealer carmax offered xxxxx and go will you match it, if not its gonna be a deal breaker. Worked for me LOL.

A dealer told me that they basically take KBB then subtract the amount the manufacturers rebates were for that year of vehical. From what I have seen this figure is useally pretty close to first offers.

Stone try another dealer.  sounds like they were trying to give you the shaft for more commission for the sales person.

Thanks, I'm going to... maybe.  I'm not totally sold on getting rid of my truck.  My wife doesn't want me to,  but she understands why I would.  She's great that way.

If it's feasible for you to keep it I think you ought to.  Obviously it may not be feasible, I don't know your situation.

yea that is my thought too, if it is possible to keep it then keep it, but i know personally, if i got a new car, i would be unable to keep my d, its my baby and id rather have my 5 year old fully loaded truck than a new one, makes my decision easy

For what it's worth, an '06 quad st 4x4 has a book value of $17k+.  I paid between retail and wholesale value for mine.

Well, I was told today by my chain of command that I'll probably go on TDY (Temporary Duty) for a month up to Seattle, then they're going to require me to move up there, which stinks.  The reason why that stinks is because I've only been in the house for a year and the market is hurting so bad that I wouldn't even come close to getting what I owe and what I've put into it.

This is starting to really suck.  If something isn't done soon, I'm going to be in over my head before I know it.

Just torch it and collect the insurance money!! j/k.  Unfortunatley, you'd get more money that way than selling or trading your truck in and your rates will prolly go up.

The Honda dealer told us to go to Carmaxx because they would not go any higher on the price of the trade in...
