AC smells like mold - 9/8/2007 1:00:36 AM    ziggy   Posts: 10 Joined: 5/9/2007 Status: offline When I first turn on the AC, it smells very musty and moldy, like a wet basement. This lasts for approx two to three minutes, then it goes away. I believe I have mold in system somewhere. Any practical advice on how to get rid of it. Can I do this myself? Where is the location of the AC motor, and what is the best way to clean it, etc... Could I have caused the problem by having the AC running while using a drive through car wash? My Durango is a 2002 RT. Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide me! Post #: 1

Is there a way to clean the rear ducts too? I think moisture is pooling somewhere in the back there. (in reply to dhvaughan) Post #: 3

I think the problem lies with the fact that the A/C evaporator drain is clogged.  I'm having that issue right now.  I can actually hear water sloshing around in the lower part of the dash, but can't find the drain.  My durango is not leaving a wet spot on the ground after running the A/C. RE: AC smells like mold - 9/10/2007 11:25:29 AM    United1   Posts: 178 Joined: 1/29/2007 Status: offline Sorry, that one I can't help with.  I have not had to anything with my rear A/C, therefore, I do not know where the components are, the plumbing, etc.  The online 2001 Dak manual doesn't help either.  As I was looking in it and wondering why I can't find anything, I realized the Dak's don't have rear air (LOL)!
