Hello Everyone, I been reading up on the site for quite some time. I just recently got the very 2 mufflers on the end replaced with 2 Flowmaster Super 40's with 3.5 Inch Tips on the outlets of the Flowmasters. It sounds great, but would like it a little louder. I called the dealership and they said the factory Suitcase (resonator) was why it wasn't much loud. So What is your opinion on straight pipping where the suitcase is? Or would you do X Pipes? I want to be loud and sound good as possible but still want my low-end power? Thanks

Welcome Jesse_Trent.

I don't think the x-pipe would have much impact on the exhaust note but it does server a purpose.  Basically the purpose is to even the pressure in the exhaust system, as the cylinders fire and exhaust exits it pulses due to the firing order. The X pipe helps create a vacuume effect which makes the exhaust more efficient.

Keep the X-pipe in place.

JT,

First off, Mango is a great point of reference, you'll learn a lot from him.  I have the x-pipe to flowmaster 40's and then straight pipe back.  I love it and couldn't be happier.  Friends and foes alike also like the sound.  Some people like it without the reso's and others don't.  If you're not sure about loud rumbling noises during your entire ride then stay with the resos.  Good luck and happy moddin'.

I had my flows done at a local shop which drag races Mopar and deals in Flowmasters.  I did my research before going with them and heard nothing but great things about the shop from both Dodge and Ford customers.  They put on x-pipes to the two super 40 series flowmaster mufflers and then 2.5" straight pipe back with 3" 15 degree cut stainless steel tips.  I'm having the straight pipe switched to 3.5" with 4" stainless steel tips in the next few weeks.  There are no resonators on at all.  I also noticed much better performance with the new setup as opposed to the factory exhaust on it before.  All I've really ever known was the current setup I have.  I hope this helps.

I've been wanting to add an exhaust on my R/T since I've bought it 8 months ago...I'm just hesitant on doing it because of all this dreadful "DRONE" I keep hearing about.  Some say it's there, some say it's minor and doesn't bother 'em...I have Magnaflow's on my Suburban and there is a minor drone to it, but since the car is so damn big it doesn't bother us.  I'm just afraid, because we do a lot of traveling back and forth between Washington and California.  I don't want a skull drumming drone that entire way.  I just wish I could hear people's vehicles around here that have done it.

Good luck to you JT and these guys in here know what they are talking about and always lend a helping hand.

JT, the OEM x pipe is between the midpipes and suitcase.  Just use the stock one.  You can see it in this picutre right under the crossmember...
