Alright, go ahead and laugh it up but I need some info about the PCV valve: where is it, would a standard replacement work or are there better PCV valves out there and how exactly do you replace it?  Thanks for the help.

Here's a picture of the PCV valve on a 5.7. Twist the top tab and pull to remove. Don't know if there are aftermarket replacements, just go w/OEM.

It should last a good 35000+ miles.

Yes, once you take the engine cover off that picture should look the same. In the engine compartment it's on the passenger rear side right between the intake and fuel rail.

Just pull up on it and it should pop off. There are four bolts that hold the fuel rails on which have studs comming up that the engine cover pops onto, see pic for their locations.

I hope that clearer than mud

HardCharger,

It is one of the original "green" earth ideas.  I'm surprised Al Gore didn't say he invented it... LOL.

I wouldn't mess with the PCV (pollution control valve) - they've been on cars since the 60s to evacuate the blow-by (which contains unburned fuel, carbon dioxide, and water vapor) from the crankcase of the engine and to be sucked back through the intake and burned during the combustion process.  The cars in the 50s would just vent all that bad stuff out a tube in the air.  It is one of the reasons SLUDGE is only a bad memory. Like Mango says it'll last a LONG time.  We used to have to clean them up and recalibrate them... (just kidding... it's just a simple ball and cage set up).  But I suppose nowadays it's just a throw away/replaceable part.

Alright,  not good anymore.  The current PCV valve will not turn and pull up out of the engine compartment.  I also have been unable to find any PCV valve for a charger at NAPA, AAP and Autozone.  Well, at least that is what the people at the stores say after they search for it in their "douche-bag database".  I've also been told that 5.7L Hemis don't have PCV valves.  Any advice?

I haven't shopped around for a PCV valve... yet. I recommend you go to a dealership and get one from their parts department, your probably not going to find an aftermarket part.

I'll tinker w/mine this evening and will let you know how it goes.

I appreciate the help.  I've twisted and pulled on it several times and it wont move.  Now I'm no Tommy Tough Tits but I am 6' 215lbs.  I know it should come out relatively easy but its kicking my a$$. Also, how would I know it needs to be changed by looking at it?  Thanks.

I was also wondering how do you know the PCV valve is bad and needs to be replaced.  On my '91 Dakota, I just replaced it because they are so cheap.  For our Hemi's ....I have not been able to lookup aftermarket ones either. May need one for a new  (used) purchase for the wife...2005 Magnum RT :)

Sorry I forgot all about this...

hardcharger you better eat more wheaties  j/k

I used the channel locks in the pic below turned the tab about 1/4 turn and then pulled up.  It doesn't turn easy so put some pressure on it.  I made sure the channel locks were hitting the bottom of the tab before putting the torque on it. You should be able to use pliers the large channel locks I used just give a little more torque.

Man, don't say that, I was using my hands to try and twist it off.  The brain trust at autozone was trying the same method with the same result.  You'd think he might have a little more knowledge than I...thought I might need to start eating more red meat and doing pushups after that...thanks for the info.  One more thing, how do you know, by looking at the pcv valve, that it needs to be changed?  Or is it when you notice a slight change in performance?
