Hey all! I have a big problem. I have an 85 daytona with a tranny from an 87 ( four speed turbo) The shifter just went loose one day. It does not shift into gear, though I can feel the clutch grabbing. The shifter just moves around all over the place and the car feels like its stuck in first gear. Some one mentioned to me that there might be a loose connection to the Tranny but I cant find any descriptions or diagrams about what I am looking for and how to get to it....does the shifter hook into the tranny from the bottom or from the top? I am new to the Daytona family so all help is extremely appriciated. Thanks!

Had this same problem on my 85. Pop the hood and look down at the back of the tranny (between trans and firewall) below the brake booster. That's where all the "shifting" happens. There are two cables (that run inside to the shifter) with ends that just "pop" onto the ball studs on the linkages. Mopar actually had a fix for this (a couple of clips that went over the ball studs and caps) and I haven't had a problem since. When one pops off you can take the shifter inside and just run it in circles. Get hold of your local dodge dealer for the clips, since I think the recall/TSB is a little out of date on this (can't hurt to check though). Might be able to get it fixed for free if that's the problem.

I had the same problem with my 1990 5 speed, and it looks like the grommet (bushing?) at the shift lever just deteriorated from old age. I had driven for 5 or 6 miles, and downshifted for a stop sign. When I went to start up, the shifter flopped loose and would not change gears. I was in third, and was able to burn the clutch to get home. I took it apart, and saw the loop for the shifter cable laying on the floor below the shifter lever and small pieces of the bushing laying around. Called the dealer, and they will sell only the entire cable assy ($130.00). NFW. I fabbed a 5/8 OD bushing, 1/2" wide and drilled a hole to get the car movable. Does the group have any ideas where to get a good replacement? Does Spiva make anything like that,or just suspension bushings? I also need a black drivers seat belt and console for this same Daytona. Where is a good place to look for that type of thing on-line? The local junk yards have crushed everything. Thanks in advance - OFG
