I was at the track on Satruday and saw a GT500 run. It must have been stock because it turned the quarter just a tab above 14 seconds.

Yeah I would imagine it would be much quicker, and it seems smaller than the Charger and its doing about the time as the Charger stock isn't it? I like the shape of the new mustang, don't care too much for any of them from 2006 to the 5.0's. I would much rather own anything from a 64 to a 67 though. I had a 67, I got rid of it because I didn't have the money or the time. Big mistake...

Had to look up some of the specs on the GT 500. Stock it produces 480 lb ft torque HP and weighs 3920 pounds. It should run the quarter in the high 12s or low 13s. It was rather hot at the track Saturday and apparently whoever was driving it wasn't going balls out.

If you have skill in the drivers seat you can run some low 12second times. Mustang and Fast Ford's magazine tested it and was able to run a 12.3 at like 115mph.

Hardcharger, The Ford engines rely on superchargers for power. In the "old" days, Ford Interceptor 460, 427, and 390's were the best around, but were quickly eaten up by 440s, 383s, and the mighty 426 Hemi. Ford had good stuff, just couldn't get traction (same problem) with the Shelby GTs. I know that Mopar hasn't used factory superchargers like Ford has, but Ford needed the extra power in supercharging. I ALMOST bought a Mustang before my Daytona, but after driving big Plymouth Fury's and Dodge Polara's in my sheriff office days, I couldn't resist the big Daytona. And, by the way, yes -- I ran my share of Pony cars down with my big Chrysler cars more times than not -- I'm here to tell you not much got away from a 440 pursuit car -- just see what they had to do to that poor Charger in the movie Bullit so the Ford could get away... Ford fans click here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MopDQYVW2JI to see your 500, er, 447 HP Shelby GT500 with prehistoric suspension... MN
