Something I do at the car wash is pop the hood and turn the spray controller to engine/tire cleaner. I then lightly spray in engine compartment. Next I flip the spray controller to rinse and spry the engine compartment again until the entire engine cleaner is gone.  I do not press the trigger to get high pressure spray when rinsing off the engine compartment. Be sure to take the engine top hat off and clean it separately.

If you really want to finish the engine compartment:
Blow off or use an old shammy to soak up the left over water <= no water spots.

I use a little dielectric grease (the stuff you should put on the spark plug boots when changing the plugs) on the rubber parts to shine them up and Mothers Back to Black for plastic parts.

That’s what I do but I’m sure there are hundreds of other tricks that folks do to care for their car.

I use a 1 to 3 mix of Simple Green to water. Spray it good and then rinse it off with a gentle stream of water. I like the idea of the car wash thing Mango does but I am not sure of the engine/tire cleaner. The car wash by my house has a seperate setting for each. I think maybe using the spot free rinse would be good. Like Mango said be sure to dry it off also.
I just recently bought the Mr Green Auto Dry System and will try it out soon.
