First Please don't take this question as an insult, or anything like that. I am just wondering.... Why did you buy the 3.7 v6 instead of the 4.7 or even the Hemi? Is it purely gas milage, performance potential, what? I'm just young and curous, so please don't take this the wrong way.
Thank You,
R

Yes. In my case, I did not research enough and was lied to by the EPA and the stealer. If the stealer would have said that the EPA sticker was based on 1970's standards where A/C usage, traffic and speed parameters were outdated or none used, I would have said give me the 4.7 screw the 3.7. BUT, nobody did and I did not search enough. So YES, I did it for MPG.

performance potential
I knew from the get go, 3.7 was not as powerful as the 4.7 nor 5.7. But I was not looking for power. I wanted to save some gas and have a full size truck. BUT I WAS LIED TO BY THE GOVERNMENT AND THE DEALER TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THAT.

Thank You Sir, I have wondered about that, I've had v6's all my life and until this truck. I thought about the 3.7 and 4.7 when i got it for the gas milage thing as well, but afte looking at them the difference was not that great. Even with the big 8I still manage 14 in the city and 17 Highway. I hope to go back to a six soon (Cummings I6 mind you) but it is still a 6. I am prior service Air Force, andI know about some Government Lying!
Sir,FYI, I have ALWAYS respected my elders. Being a military bratI learned that quick.
Thanks for the reply!

I bought mine for several reasons. I have a friend who is a Dodge mechanic and he told me the 3.7L was by far the most reliable engine not a diesel in the Dodge lineup. Also the price was a huge factor. I bought mine brand new cheaper than used V8's where going for. I don't need a b***er engine and also insurance is cheaper. I love this truck!
Last year, we bought a brand new 3.7L Ram. We did it because of the MPG and because it was a hell of a better deal too! I did much research for 10 months on this site and then we quickly upgraded to a HEMI. The reason we did upgrade to a HEMI was because we will be getting a boat and some jet skis, why not have a much stronger engine with the same MPG, and because my mom just wanted to have the HEMI because of all the hype.

Yeah, it's got a HEMI!
I was looking at MPG I sold my 3/4 4X4 10 MPG, for this truck Love the truck the 3.7 underpowered I knew this going in but the MPG could be much better I was talking to anouther 2008 Dodge 1500 Q-Cab owner at the gas pump he had the 4.7 V-8, and getting better MPG than my 3.7 V-6 sad but true.
And yes DODGE Lied to me also about the MPG at least I gotten the Manual 6 speed trans they seem to last longer but shift funny at first at least untill you get use to it. Not for speed shifting thats for sure, more like driving a class 8 truck take you'r time it shift better that way.

Because my truck cost 14,000 and the cheapest V8 that the dealer had at the time was 18,000. Actually they had a 4.7 for 14,700 that I would have bought but it was a longbed and I don't like how they look.
