I still don't agree with how they did it.  If they wanted an apples to apples comparison they needed to equip all the trucks as similarly as possible, it's that simple.  I lost respect for them awhile ago anyway...

the guy in charge of Consumers Reports testing is David Champion:

Notice he is an ex-Nissan and ex-Land Rover employee
but he did not give the Titan pickup a good grade
compared to the Ram.

After 7 years of endurance testing 4x4 Land Rovers in the desert
he might know what a differential ratio is.

Well he might know what it is but he obviously picked the wrong ones.  I still say you can't fairly compare two trucks unless you spec them out to be as close as possible to each other.  If Toyota only offers one or two options then you pick the other trucks to match that (I also see that as a weak point for Toyota, you don't get much choice for the specs).
