Hello Everyone - I just purchased an 06 Charger R/T, V8, 340 HP. I am not real knowledgeable about cars and would like to improve my cars power. I have been reading the forums and see people talking about different things like CAI's, exhausts, air filters, etc... My question is, where can I go to learn about what these items will do and how much HP/Power will they add to my vehicle. I just want to make a sound and knowledgable decision on these things but I am finding it kind of tough as I am not real knowledgeable on the car side of things. Thanks - DeZ

Dez, Welcome to the forum. I was the same as you are about 8 months ago when I joined here -- except, I know a lot about cars in general -- I just didn't know about my new, then, 2006 Daytona. Reading any forum is frustrating and time consuming -- but stuck within pages of bla-bla-bla are usually little jems of knowledge. You just have to read and see how it pans out, which people (posters) give good advise, and keep reading what those people write. There are several on this forum that you can count on -- and since I live hundreds of miles from most of them and I'm big and strong and have broad shoulders, I will name names: MangoinTX, 74Scamp, Baldyloxs, BigBanana3796of4000, Nicky B, Stroker, and IXLR8 are the guys I most read up on and trust -- now, I know I have learned from others, and I know I've caused hurt feelings by missing someone, but it's a solid list. Chargerforums has a few good listers there too, but I better not list their names here... So keep reading, and take BABY steps before you do anything. Just because you read it, or hear it, doesn't mean it's going to work for you -- ASK questions BEFORE you spend money or change your car, but yet, be an individual and do what YOU like too. Also, if you don't understand something and you want to check it, use Google or Wikipedia to read about something. Both are invaluable sources of info. Since you asked: most "guys" start with exhaust, then work up (an expression that you do exhaust work first because nothing works until you get rid of the exhaust gases from the engine -- remember the engine is an air pump -- more air in, the more you need to get air out); usually, exhaust, (headers for more seriousness), Cat-Back for a noise changer, air intake (ram air actually, usually called Cold Air Intake in error), and Superchips are common performance additions. Diablo has a new programmer, but it looks much more complicated than I need; even a Jet 2 chip is fine. You really don't start making power until you crack open the motor and put in a bigger cam, open the heads up, up the compression ratio, or put on a blower -- but those are costly, very costly. And if you do too much, why did you not buy a Corvette? LOL. Instead of spending all that, just spend $800 for 100 HP for nitrous. Also remember our 5.7 engines are "two" engines in one with the MDS system -- too big of an exhuast system will give you headaches when the MDS kicks in. But, some guys like it loud. Maybe you don't care -- I happen to like it quieter. (See, be yourself!). Remember: everytime you do something there is a TRADE-OFF. Here, you need to think about what you really want to do -- too much cam? Too little bottom end power and rotten performance. Too much HP? Now you're breaking transmissions or rear ends or half-shafts (axles). Too much tire? Break axles. Or, not enough fuel with a header system? Lean out the engine -- ka-boom!. Like those 22" wheels? Too much unsprung weight. Want to spend $2,000 in head work (+labor) to get only 30 HP? Too expensive. See? Speaking of bla-bla... I better quit! Welcome aboard, have fun, and ask those questions! MN
