I believe it makes sense. You have two washers that are not paired. It's probable that you will have a flat washer on one side of a bolt and a wave washer (<= just love that description, it's more like a lock washer) on the nut side. It's also probable that you will have a bolt with only a "wave" washer. OK looking at the PDF install document from that link you sent... The bracket closest to the elbow has the following in order: Bolt M through washer O through bracket J then through spacer J (image 13 shows where the bolt threads into). Bolt G goes through the bracket H then through a cup washer I then through bracket J then through washer K with a lock nut L at the end.

Well, let me tell you what happened. So I got the CAI put on, towards the end me girlfriends dad helped me out. At first, after I connected the negative, I started her up, I did'nt really notice a change how everyone says, so I put it in neutral with the parking break, and I got out to listen to the engine, and I heard this wierd noise, best way to describe it is "zzzzzzzzzzzzz" and it sounded like it was coming from the engine, this is without the cover on, I don't know if that affects. Thats one. So I turned it off and he tried to put the cover on, mean while I was tightening all the bolts on the hoses, and I remembred you said take out fuse 11, so I did but only for about 5 mins. As he was trying to put the cover back on, he realized ( my "father in law") he made a mistake earlier he mesaured the stock crank case vant hose to the one that was sent to me and cut it to even them out, now the cover wasn't fitting to well. Sow now I need a silicone hose 1/2" id x 17" part number 08177 from K&N (if anyone knows where I can find one lol). Thats two. Anyway, we got the cover one how ever we could, I started her back and and no zzzzzzzz noise anymore like I heard it earlier, but... I noticed something, when I put it in neutral with the parking break, it takes about a good 1/4" to step on the gas to get the RPM up then I let go, it seems to lag response, then as soon as I let go of the gas the RPM will stay up and it seems to stay up there for a good second then it comes back down, but on the way down it stays on 1000 rpm for a split second before it goes back down to just below the line before the 1000. Oh and I don't notice this when I'm driving. I never paid attention before I got the CAI put on so I don't know if this is normal. These were my observations. Does that seem normal? Am I being too paranoid? Please help! What do you think Mango? Thanks for yesterday btw. Anyone else wanna put their 2 cents in would help.

It will take a little while for the PCM/HAL to learn the new hardware. Drive her like you stole it and it will learn and pep up.

Lol I will, but it doesn't seem normal does it. Should I take out fuse 11 again for 10 minutes instead of 5? And I wonder if I can get another crank case vent hose from autozone or something, but will it work the same if its not the same material. Did yours do this when you your CAI changed?

Betta, I'm late on this, just got back from racing at Brainerd Int'l Raceway with my son and his STi. Anyway, I have the same K&N series 63. I see you have one of the best you are confering with in Mango -- he's tops. But as a suggestion, you don't need a K&N hose, even a good poly or silicone hose from a good hardware store will do fine. It isn't under much pressure. Also, after you drive, I would check ALL the screw clamps and settings (how it is sits) and check especially the air cleaner head too see it is secure -- do this everytime you fill up, or after driving it -- I've had mine for about a year and a half and I check it after practically everytime I drive the car and fill it up (but I'm a fanatic that way. Try lightly to turn the big air cleaner head and lift it slightly to check all your clamps). But check it OFTEN -- injested air borne dirt particles are one of the fastest ways to damage an engine. Also, I'd take OFF the engine cover and allow the engine some breathing room -- the engine cover is foam lined and hold in lots of heat from the heads that heat soak the intake. Also, without it, cooler air rides over the engine from the front and helps keep her cooler. (I modified the front air dam to allow extra air into the filter element, but at an angle, so it does not get wet. This helps her breathe better also). Since you don't need the engine cover, now your shorter K&N hose will fit! Sounds like your on the right track. MN

Betta, I didn't race the Charger, yet. This is a driving school, with a 3.1 mile, 10 turn, asphalt road track and you are only allowed to pass in certain areas to prevent door banging. My son's modded STi ran against ZO6 Corvettes, Lotus, Infinity, modded 5.0 Mustangs, etc and track cars (the ones they rent out for racing). He passed a ZO6 on the 4,700' straightaway -- it took him 2/3rds of the front track but he got by all 505 HP of him and lead him to the end -- the STi was clocked at 170 on the nose. I will try in September for my Charger's turn. It's been a LONG time since I raced -- I'll just pretend I'm running down a Mustang code 3... then I'll be fine... MN
