auto stick question - 8/8/2007 9:01:31 PM    dino11216   Posts: 12 Joined: 7/5/2007 Status: offline This may be a silly question to most of you guys,but this is my first car. what is the best rpm to switch at 1, 2, 3, 4, gear. Also can i damage my engine if i shift at the wrong time. I heard if the rpm gets to high it will shift it self,but i never let it get that high.Thanks for your time u guys are the best? Post #: 1

Shift before red line (stock is around 5900 rpm) so you don't bounce off the rev limiter. (in reply to dino11216) Post #: 2

RE: auto stick question - 8/9/2007 5:47:17 PM    MangoInTX Pat & Amandas Wedding Fund Contributor Posts: 2728 Joined: 4/10/2006 Status: offline Your absolutly right dino11216, if your running from light to light or 1/8 or 1/4 mile.  On top speed you don't have to get there quick but strong and smooth especially up top. 1st-2nd bump out around 5800 just to get out of 1st ASAP. 2nd-3rd bump out around 6000. In a short run hopefully you never hit fourth. (in reply to dino11216) Post #: 5
