I just bought my sisters daytona she swears it has a turbo. I cant feel the boost while driveing the car and I cant visable see a turbo. So maybe im not looking in the right place. Is the turbo hard to spot on this engine or different then all the other turbos Ive delt with. any help would be great. I think a sales men told her it was the turbo modle and she bought it. (1990 daytona 4cyld.) the vin # shows the car came stock with a tbi engine any one know what tbi stands for? anyway she was told the engine was rebuilt and a turbo added. Is there an easy way to see if it is a 2.2 or 2.5 . any help would be great i dont know alot about later modle cars.

TBI= throttle body injection To see if it has a turbo follow the intake hose to the engine, the intake will have to go through the turbo if it has one before it gets to the engine.

Look an the back of the motor at the exhaust manifold. The turbo will be tucked between the motor and the firewall

Thnx guys no turbo in this daytona. If I decide to rebuild this 2.5 engine can i add a turbo and what other mods would be good for this engine. I am looking for the 200-250 horse power range. Also i asume the 3 speed auto is no good what trany should i go with. If this has all been discussed before where would i find the posts? thnx

Easiest mods would be cold air intake, 2.5" or 3" (preferable) exhaust, and a logic module upgrade (Mopar Performance makes them, can find them for about $50 or so). Those should get you up to about 200 hp or so. As for the tranny, swap out to a A555 or A568. Stay away from the A520 used in the 84-86, they break too easy (believe me, I know!!!) Good Luck!!!!

If that car was a Turbo in good working order, you would know it. There would be no mistaking the power surge. I don't know about the 2.2 but the 2.5 is tricky to convert to turbo. The compression in the normally aspirated engine is too high. Also the fuel injection would be too lean to that much air. The timing would have to be retarded, use of "hot" plug, etc, etc..... Best to just swap engines. You'll have to swap the module and all. Unless I am mistaken.....maybe someone can tell me I am wrong. I would like to hear any contrary. I would like to make a turbo out of my fake shelby (89 ES) I have access to a 2.2 siezed turbo engine. From what I understand, it would be better to rebuild the 2.2 instead of trying to convert the existing 2.5.............any comments?????
