So I want to switch to synthetic oil on my next oil change. I would assume its just as simple as switching but just in case, is there anything special I have to do?

Yep simple as draining all your oil and replacing the filter... and absolutely do not get Fram... I'd go with mobile 1 all around oil and filter... just remember once you go synthetic you can't go back...

K&N filters are bit pricey but unquestionably worth it. Fram gives junk a bad name. Another plus is you can take K&Ns off with a 1" 6 point  socket.

If you ever want to switch back from synthetic oil, it's just as easy as switching to it. You probably won't switch back though.
I've been using Mobil 1 since it came out but recently went to Royal Purple.
I even switched my 25hp tractor to Royal Purple and noticed a difference, cooler running and it seemed smoother.

So you can actually switch back to regular... I didn't know that I've always heard you can't switch back...

Heres the deal...you can switch back...but its stupid to do so...that would be like putting regular Gas in an STI instead of Using premium.  I mean synthetic is thinner and gets things lubricated better and that is why it is said to make your engine last longer! which is True!!! but yeah once you put synthetic into your care if you go back to conventional you can really cause some damage.  maybe not right away but in the long run you can!
