172 no kidding! Any idea if it was fairly stock aside from a CAI, exhaust, chip, and any other simple mods. Where did that come from?

You hit it Blady... Meister. This was prior to all the cool cams and heads combos; it was running a SuperChip, headers, cai, catback. I'm sure it would be faster today, if you have a nice open road and the setup.

So you're saying it did 172mph with only a chip, full exhaust, and an intake?? Seems a little impossible to me, I wouldn't think it could break 150mph, maybe it can though??

My Honda Prelude can almost break 150 so I dont think it would be a problem with another 150hp and 200lb/ft

I agree, my charger would do 150 with just CAI & Catback then the limiter would set in. We're talking top end here, not in a 1/4 mile but several miles. <edit> add the SuperChip to tweak the governer up and you can go fast.

What charger model has a speed limiter of 150 mph stock? I don't know what the speed limiter is set at on a stock r/t but surely DC wouldn't have decided to make it 150mph.

You got it, the stock limiter is 145 on the Daytona's, that's a give and take number so 150 isn't out of reason. There was plenty of peddle left at 150. It's isn't the quickest nor fastest thing around but it does well given it's properties. For the reason you mentioned the body style isn't used in NASCAR because the areodynamics of the front end is like pushing a huge piece of plywood around. That 172 top speed was with a 300c not a charger. <edit> I'm done beating this horse... again, the facts are out there.

I wonder if this "car and driver" article you are refering to actually tested this top speed or if they just knew from DC that the speed was limited at 145mph, so that is what they wrote down as the top speed? -------------------------------- quote:
But then again, the 2K Durango can hit somewhere around 120 with the 5.9L with cold air and a muffler and thats even worse aeros and even more weight! Might be more weight, but just because it is a bigger car dosen't mean it has worse aerodynamics. --------------------------------------------- quote:
That 172 top speed was with a 300c not a charger. what the?? Now we are talking about completely different cars. Our cars might have the same platform and engine/drivetrain, but aerodynamics has ALOT to do with top speed. I'm not saying a 300c has better aero's than a charger or the other way around (I'm not sure), but they are certainly going to be different. ---------------------------------------- quote:

There was plenty of peddle left at 150. sweet!! do you know if my car (r/t with the road and track preformance group option) has a limiter set that high? I don't know if my car could go 145mph but I do think it will go faster than the 126mph limiter like the guy in the second post had reported. --------------------------------------- quote:
<edit> I'm done beating this horse... again, the facts are out there. I'm done beating it too, the only thing that even got me started was that crazy 172 mph number that was thrown out there. Don't get me wrong, I just bought one of these cars, so I hope you guys are right about everything . There is only one way to find out though..... I have a really REALLY long piece of smooth road near where I live, I think I will test it out this weekend. Sorry if I have been a pain, I just want to get the facts straight so I'm not out braggin to my friends about thow my car can do 172mph with only a chip exhaust and intake and then have one of them prove me wrong . That would be embarrasing, specially if it was one of them guys that drive those new mustangs... fugly!!

FYI... the 300c is very comparable to the Charger.
