Purchased my Magnum SRT8 new in Aug. 05'. I now have 28k responsible drivng miles on it, No mods except for dealer installed cold air intake and borla cat back. About 6 months ago car starting stalling in traffic, and on acceleration revs went up to red-line, car did not engage in gear( like a clutch slipping) and car stalled. Brought it in and it was diagnosed as a bad main computer. Computer was changed out. 1.5 months later car "stalled" in heavy stop and go traffic,along with continuing bog in shifting- brought it in, new program flash was performed. Hesitation in shifting was somewhat better but "stalling" continued. Brought it in again- could not find problem-no code was exhibited. Continued to do the "stalling" thing from time to time.
Finally 2 weeks ago it "stalled" repeatedly brought it in again-no diagnostic codes were exhibited. On the way home from the dealership car " stalled " during acceleration, while turning, and at idle in traffic. Brought the car back to the dealer last Th. I suggested they hook their diagnostic to the car while idling until it "stalls". I got a call the next day, they were able to duplicate the problem- the diagnostic caught the code. Turns out the car was not just "stalling" but was completely shutting off as if I turned the ignition off! This is now 6 days later, the dealer is unable to find the cause of the problem, even with technical support from chrysler. What do you think? is it time for the California lemon law to kick in?
I had a simlar issue with my Jeep GC. I would loose all power. Pulled the alternator, checked out good. Cleaned the ground and all connections (battery, ALT, starter), still had the issue.
One day it decided to get really bad. Got it home, turned it off and tried to restart, dead as a door nail. The other interesting part was with the ignition in the off position my gauges were jumping. This made me think, my ignition switch was bad.
So I poped the hood, the under hood light was very dim and flickering, this then told me it was not ignition switch but had to be battery. That light just draws power from the battery, whether the ignition is off or on.
I would never had guessed it, but after replacing the battery, which was not that old, the thing ran normal.

I could really see that being the issue here, because when you think about it, all the times that this stuff happens, the battery is in a high load condition. Does the magnum have a mechanical ps pump? or is it electric like alot of other newer cars? because that would be an extra added current load when turning, and in heavy traffic you have alot of heat, and rad fans draw a huge amount of power. This sounds really reasonable as a possible cause, I'd check it out for sure, and maybe even bump up to a better battery like an optima or something.
Just an update, as of 8-24, the car continues to baffle the service, engineering techs, chrysler has agreed that my situation fall under the CA Lemon law and has agreed to"buy back the vehicle". Now comes my choice a new 08' SRT or $.
Start talking the lingo of a Dodge Buy Back Program. They will get ti fixed. I work a dealership, and have not see any probs with the SRT8's, Only seen 3, including mine.
