2nd Gen Service Manual Download - AKA merry christmas thread.

Disclamier that applies to all DIY articles.

Your skill level will determine whether or not you should attempt any of these DIY's... do them at your own risk.

Use common sense when working on your truck... wear safety goggles when needed and I recommend a good set of mechanics gloves... I have GoJo's which have a rubberized palm & fingers to grip nuts & bolts better.  they are tight fitting and work great.

Maybe my ball joint writeup could make the grade as "Noobster BJ Experience DIY" lol.  something fancy like that.

Hey guys, sort of new here and I read up on the "Kegger intake mod".  Just curious if this is still considered beneficial and also if this mod is applicable to my 2003 5.9 1500 4x4??

Thanks!!

welcome to DF... yes it would definately help, but there are several other mods that you can do before cuting the manifold... CAI, 1.7 rollers, 52mm TB etc...

Ok, so being such a newbie to this world (not a newbie to mechanical ability though...)  what are these mods you mention.  Brief explaination is fine...

I have pretty much zero money to work with right now so I'm just looking for really cheap ways to slowly improve towing, MPG, power, and general performance.

I tow pretty light loads but right now with the bed full of camping gear and 2 ATV's on the trailer, I'm getting 7-8 mpg at best...

cheep mods are 180* t-stat, crank sensor mod, and the open air filter mod (search for "FIPK no more").  then when bux are available, get the 52mm fastman TB a single cat back exhaust kit and you will be in good shape.  dont expect a change in mpg... maybe 1.0 if your lucky.  I modded the hell out of my 5.9 and got it up into the mid 14's on the hiway, up 1.5 mpg or so...  it ran awesome and performance was way better than stock, just not a big bump in mileage.

Ok that's cool thanks for the tips!  The only thing I have right now is a drop in K&N and I have dual pipes after the cat with no muffler.  I'm probably going to clean up the TB and the TPS that I saw some write-ups on and then do the normal things like plugs etc.

I have about 82K miles right now and she needs some TLC that's for sure.
