I own a 91 Daytona ES with the 2.5 engine and a 3 speed auto tranny. When it hits about 30 mph or so it will slip for about 2 seconds. It doesnt do it all the time, just occassionally. Is this a sign to get another tranny? TIA for any help.

might be the transmission mount, I believe mine was causing it to slip a little. You can always drain the fluid and change the filter and add in some ATF (Mopar is always good, I'm using ATF+4 from Valvoline and I love it).

Thanks Shelby...I see you post here alot. I was wondering if it was something minor..I'll check out the mount, a rebuilt engine was put in it about a year ago...And the fluid is kinda brown looking. I was thinking about doing a filter-fluid change. I'll also go with that fluid you recommended as well..Thanks a mill for the info.

No problem, I love Daytona's and working on them and I'm more than glad to offer any help I can. Does your transmission fluid or dipstick have any black sludge on it? That could be a sign that the clutches are wearing down, mine has been giving me that though my transmission seems to be in fair shape so its not necesssarily a bad sign. If you really want to clean everything out for sure, change the fluid once every 2 months a couple of times to make sure everything is nice and fresh. From there on it should stay a nice healthy pinkish-red for a while.

So far so good..No black sludge, or any sludge...Just kinda a brown that you can see through...That pic I take it is of your Daytona? Mines red as well and it seems that the shelbys and the ES's are the same body style. But the shelbys are higher in value. I wouldnt be surprised if the fluid in mine has alot of viscosity breakdown. I could imagine that could cause some slip with thinner fluid. I dont seem to have it when it first starts up and everything is cold.

Yep it's mine, a 91 Shelby if you couldn't guess. It was the last year before they switched for the Shelby they didn't make very many because half way through they switched to the IROC I believe. Here is it's Cardomain if you want to check it out http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2646735, not much right now though.

As for the fluid, it sounds like it's just old and could use a good change with a filter job. Drop some of that Valvoline ATF+4 in there and let me know how it works for you. It'll eat up about 4 quarts I believe, might be 5. It's been a while.

WoW! She's a Beeyoot! I need to get a new paint job on mine. Mine is the same shade of red. Mine has that "clearcoat" peeling problem. (sure youve heard plenty of those) course it just wasnt the daytona that had that problem..think all dodges did in that year range. LoL..liked "the first experience with a GM" pic. Atleast you made it out. I'll post and let you know when I get that fluid/filter change done. Thanks again for your help here and on the forum.

That did the trick Shelby! She seems to act like a whole new tranny now. Im also going to do what you suggested and change it again in the near future and do that until its a nice red color. Im just ecstatic I dont have to change it out. I may cosider it later. Found a guaranteed tranny with 80 K on it...But thats just a project Im not ready to tackle...Might just buy it and store it away..But not going to make it a priority because this fluid and filter change seems to be doing the trick. I can already tell the difference, stronger shifting now. THANKS for the help Shelby..And NEVER part with a Daytona..Just buy more ;) lol. Will catch you again on here.

Hey no problem! I'm glad it worked for you, much cheaper than a rebuild huh? One more good fluid/filter change it probably will fool you into thinking it is brand new.

hey i have 91 daytona es and had this same problem    and i did flush and fill then a month later it did the same thing then i figured out that it was the lock up torque converter that was bad soo if it does it again that is the problem    if you let it go you run the chance of burning out your transmission i just unpluged mine and it works fine or you could spend the money to get a new one but will work fine without it
