Default lets talk intake manifolds for the 5.9/ 5.2

im seriously in the market for an intake manifold and i need some advice from people who actually have one on their truck, i have a 99 5.2 5 speed with headers full exhaust 3.91 gears K&N FIPK and i plan on doing the intake manifold and throttle body in the next week or so.

heres my options:

M1 MPI 2bbl- ($465 + $69 install kit)i want it but i constantly read bad things about it (loss of low end)

Hughes stage II ported beer barrel- alot of money for a worked over stock intake ($465+ core) and does it really work? i havnt read anything about it except on the hughes website and of course there going to say its good

Hughes modified edelbrock air gap for MPI 2bbl- a TON of money ($725) for what your getting but theres a write up stating they gained almost a half secon in the quarter from the intake swap alone

any others? im only aware of those 3, and does a B&G flash help with the loss of low end on the M1? im about 10 miles away from there shop

I'm porting/polishing my "Keg" intake right now. If you have the $$$ I would go with the Hughes FI Airgap intake. That thing will out perform anything on the market. I was going to buy the airgap intake but I went withtheir bigger cam(HER1828AL), ECU re-flash, performance damper & flexplate. I even had the ecu re-flashed for that airgap intake because I know as soon as I get the $$$, I'm going to buy it! If you keep on planning to mod your truck, re-flash it at the end of your mods, it'll save you a ton of $. As far as the M1 goes, I heard it sucks till you get to around 3,000 RPM's and then it pulls really hard. That airgap intake is supposed to pull throughout the entire RPM range.

I think the M1 is a great manifold. Yes you do lose some low end. It actually starts picking up around 2300-2500 RPM, not 3000. With a gear change you can usually get some of that low-end back anyways. Our engines (5.2/5.9) lack quite a bit in the upper ranges, they just rev, but aren't pulling anymore. The M1 moves the powerband up enough to have a "happy medium".

I've heard good things about the Hughes too, never had any hands on with it.
