I would swear I saw a post from someone telling how to do this. Something to do with the keystroke etc? Any know. On my 01 2500 it's a cycle the key 3 times and read the codes in the ODO window but not in the 99 Durango. dan

'98/'99 require a reader. Superchips or the Dealer are your only options I believe. '00+ can be read on your own via 3 keys on and watch in the odometer area for the code to flash. IndyDurango

There were two years that dodge stop the turnning the key on/ off three times for codes. thats when you need a scanner.

As stated above you'll need a code reader, personally I would tell the wife I need the superchips or hypertech and not say a damned thing about a scanner. If you do opt for a scanner you can pick one up from auto zone or the likes it just has to be an OBD III reader I do believe.

I haven't had the check engine light on in a long time but I know if you hold the trip/reset button while you turn the key to the "on" position and then let go it will test all the gauges. I don't know if it will tell you what the code is. I always use a snap-on scanner.
