Just to advise everyone that doesn't know yet! Daimler Chrysler had issued a bulletin back in may 2006 for rear brake issue and rear axle...

Problem with the brake is coming from hwy braking at high/medium speed, the truck was making a rattle on the brake pedal... if your problem please have it changed. Will become very costly after warranty. The need to change the entire rear brake assembly and cost over $1000 so...

What was the first systems of the problem? What were you feeling in the peddle,There have been times when i've needed to slam on the brakes on the HWY and noticed the ABS kick in & felt the peddle shudder but is there much of a diff in what you're talking about?

Nope pretty much the same thing... Mostly at hwy speed. Slowing down then the pedal would shudder like that and need to pump it up to break effectively.  Daimler-Chrysler didn't bother to get a recall cause it was a costly job...

Dodge does not decide (usually) to recall cars, usually  its the Federal government. If many people have the same concern the Feds will investigate and if they agree with your concern they will FORCE Dodge to issue recall.  Be awre this process  can take years but eventually the will investigate and require corrective action.  I suggest you start the process by using this link.

BTW I have a 2006 TRX4 also, but it only has 600 miles so far it seems fine.

Thanks for the info Antjmar, I will check on that but the mecanic at my dealer had done 2 of those since 2006.
Said it wasn't common but had heard of few more at another shop nearby.

Anyway glad warranty covers.

my truck has this problem too, i'm bringing it to the dealer tomorrow to get it fixed. My rear abs never comes on and the wheels lock and I start skidding. I actually crashed my truck once and my rear wheels locked and I just hit the truck in front of me, of course it was this woman who was not watching the road and swerved off into the emergency lane so she wouldn't slam into a line of traffic, so I had three options, hit the line of traffic, try to stop before hitting the pickup stopped in the emergency lane, or go down a ditch and hope not to flip my truck, i was so pissed that it happened. Luckily I just hit the corner of her bumper and only messed up my front fender a bit. But yesterday driving I was on the highway, lots of hills and curves, and coming around a blind corner everyone was stopped because of an accident and I had to slam on my brakes and again the rear wheels locked and i was skidding to a stop. Hopefully this gets fixed tomorrow, its a problem that never should have happened.

Its not in all trucks, there's a post in the forum that lists the recalls for each model year, this was one of the problems with the 06 model year and it was only a certain portion of the 06 models. You'll know if its not working if you brake hard and the wheels lock up instead of the ABS kicking in and pumping the breaks. If you're concerned about it and don't want to race down the road and slam on your breaks to test it, you can just have the dealer or a mechanic check it out next time you have your truck in the shop, i think the problem was with the ECU.

hmm... I thought that our trucks would just basically lock up regardless of whether or not ABS was working because our trucks only have rear wheel ABS... which from my understanding is only supposed to stop our trucks from fishtailing when you slam on the brakes...

I think some of them have front ABS as well.  Frankly, any vehicle built after 2002 or so not having 4wheel ABS is just inexcusable.

yeah I think all vehicles 2002 and later should have 4 wheel ABS.. but unfortunately my truck sure doesn't... learned that on the first full day I had my truck...lets just say it rained the night before and froze in the early morning ... so there was lots of black ice all over...

Just got back from the dealer. Apparently my ABS are fine. They ran computer tests, visually inspected it, took the truck out for a test, and then tested it with me in the truck and I felt the ABS come on (this was at about 15-20mph or less, I've only had the problem with my rear end locking up and fishtailing at speeds over 50mph). The dealer even checked for any Dodge recalls or notices, whatever you want to call them, for any malfucntions with the ABS for my truck and there were none.

So I asked him if there was any reason for why it happens and he gave me the typical answer which is it could be a number of things depending on a number of things. I asked if upgrading my front brakes to larger more powerful disks would help and he said probalby not, but if I do get larger tires for my truck I will definitly be putting larger, more powerful brakes on the front. I just don't know what to do about the rear, since everything with them is OK. I wonder if a disk conversion for the rear would accomplish anything, I hear its a waste of money though since the front brakes do the majority of the stopping. Anyone have any ideas on what my problem is or how to fix it, I guess it could just be the way I drive too...
