Me and a friend are working on a Lebaron with a 2.5 in it. The head was bad so we replaced it with a turbo head. Since then we have had trouble timing the motor. The best we have gotten is the car will idle okay, but dies when put in gear and misses when the rpm's are raises above idle.

I was searching around and found that the cam sprocket for the turbo head differs from the N/A head. Is this true? Also should we use the N/A cam or is the turbo cam the same?

If possible does anyone have the timing diagrams or instructions? We dont have a book for reference right now and are going on what we have heard from others. Also, i need a vacuume diagram to replace some of the lines the previous owner lost.

Id appreciate any help i can get.

There are two types of timing belts, square toothand round tooth. If you didn't use the same cam gear on the new head your timing will never be correct.

Can we use the 2.2 turbo cam tho? Thats the biggest question i need answered. Or should we put the Na cam in the new head?

You can use the cam just swap the cam gears,you will likely lose some power by using the turbo cam though.

Well unless we can find a solution its time to junk this car anyways.

the origional problem with the car that caused us to swap the head was a rocker arm kept falling off. The valve was sticking so we brought it to a friend who owns a machine shop to repair, he said that the valve guide was out of round and too bad to repair, he spent a week trying to get it right but couldnt. so we got this 2.2 turbo head from a friend. He said the head was still good and upon our inspection seemed to be in perfect working order.

After installing the new head, and getting the timing correct the car still ran terrible. Just out of curiosity we pulled the valve cover and sure enough the very same rocker arm once again fell off. So were pretty much ready to give up. We believe that an oil galley in the block may be clogged not allowing oil to flow to the lifter. The owner of the car can not afford for us to go thru the motor to find out if that is infact the problem. So we're going to scrap the car if there isnt an easy fix.

Anyone else have this problem? Or know of what could cause this?

So the cam and crank timing belt sprockets are both for the same typ eof belt now and you're still having a problem?
Try disconnecting the battery for a minute to reset the computer, then start the car a few times idle and rev to cause the problem then check the ECU codes. To check the codes go to http://www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html

Tell us the codes you get... it might be something to do with the IAC (idle air control), could need to be cleaned...

yea but the rocker arm keeps falling off... unplugging the battery wont fix that...

The rocker just sits ontop of the hydraulic lash adjuster and the valve and below the cam, correct? (its been a while sinceIhad the head apart). If thats the case the hydraulic lash adjuster is probably not working correctly and leaving too much slack then falling out when the cam gives it room, or the valve spring needs replacement. To test if the Lash adjuster is causing the problem move it to another valve, and see if that fixes the problem.
