Dunno if your Charger is different, but my 07 owner's manual states a 'minimum range of 87-89 octane fuel.' I t does state the manufacturer recommends 89 octane for optimum performance...I have the same engine in my truck...89 octane thus far, and fine (mediocre driving habits getting about 14+mpg average highway and city combined average during break in period). Unless it is low quality, and a crappy unleaded blend, I don't see why your gas mileage would be cut (literally) in half. Keep us posted...and as mentioned, clean air filter, tire pressure, etc. can kill gas mileage quickly.

I have an 06 R/T with 16K miles on it and I log my mileage and gas pruchases by the gallon at every fill. I figured out my MPG based on the past 2000 miles driven as well as 4000 miles and came up with roughly 19.5 MPG in each case. This should be very accurate because of the amount of miles figured on versus just checking one tank full. I drive the car in auto stick mode about 60% of the time and that mileage is about a 50 50 mix of Hwy and city. I have a lead foot and drive like a nut (my wife's words). If your mileage is figured properly and you are getting that poor mileage then you have a problem either with the car or your foot, a big problem. I'd bring it in and complain about the mileage and let them do a diagnostics on the car. If that doesn't work maybe resetting Hal may help. You can do that in your driveway, I don't know if that will help but it can't hurt.
