How does adding exhaust and a cold air intake kit increase the chance of pinging? The best mod I did that showed the best performance increase is the electric fan. The clutch fan robs so much power I didn't believe it until I switched.

I'm not going to argue, but you wrote "All I'm saying is that these engines are designed to perform within the specifications of the manufacturer."

Aren't ALL engines made this way?

How many stock Evo's, STi's, SRT4', or any performance cars, do you see.. stock?

Seriously, every engine is left with lots of room for improvement, and if it's left stock, of course it may last longer, but if you drive as little as I do (13,000 miles in 16 months) this truck should last me forever, even if I only make it to 150, 000 miles... that's about 13 years of driving....I think that's a long enough time!

Pro4x4 if you're going to make the argument that the performance should be what the manufacturer specs consider that performance is not the only thing the engineers have in mind when designing these engines.  They must be able to build them cheaply enough that they aren't losing profits to manufacturing, they have strict emissions regulations they must pass.  Mileage is also a consideration as is drivability for your average consumer.  Personally I'm willing to sacrifice some drivability for more power if need be and I don't really care about emissions since they don't test that in my state.  For the right amount of money you can get some ridiculous power out of your engine, but Dodge would go broke if they built them like that

No, they would just sell the Dakota's for about 45,000 dollars....

WINNER!!!!!!!

So it'd be stupid to make these trucks with engines that the people REALLY want... the high horsepower high torque engines, cuz it'd be robbing sales from the full sized trucks...

You know, I bought one like that last winter, and I installed it, did the whole ECU reset, and yet for some reason the Engine Light stayed on.

Eric, post a pic of how you had set it up and I'll try it again.  I saved the damned thing, so maybe there's hope yet.

I will get a pic for ya stone...  give me a few minutes.

Oh...  BTW.  Pro

By changing the temperature of the intake charge... (which you have done) You do the same thing  to a lesser extent that we are doing with this mod...  So if we are increasing our chances for engine ping,  so are you.

Thanks Eric.  I want to use it, if I thought it actually worked.

Well I still think you are wrong about the engine pinging in my case because the computer will prevent that from happening. The power wire on the other hand is tricking the computer into thinking the incoming air is colder than it would be with just the air intake kit.
