It's a long, sad story I know, but you need the whole story to diagnose. I like this forum! I've learned much already! Anyway, it quit on my boy while he was driving it. Had code for crank pos sensor, thinking this is almost too good to be true, I replaced it. Cranks but wouldn't start, no new codes. Somewhere along the way we lost the flashy check engine light thing after the key dance affair. Not knowing what to do, I brought it to a mechanic who couldn't figure it out so he brought it to mechanic #2 who specializes in electrical diagnosis - now he tells me the other guy is better at electrical. Over $500 later #2 said it MIGHT need a new ECM (and after each mechanic already had tried his own used ECM!) and probably another $500! Time out, I'm coming to get it. Got a used guaranteed ECM off ebay for $38.45 with shipping. I think it's safe to say that after 3 ECM's, that is not the problem. The battery connections are clean, ground strap too. All the wiring plugs look great - clean inside. We have fire on Cyl's 3 & 6 only. Aha, needs a coil, duh. No, the new coil didn't solve anything either. Now I suspect the cam sensor, can that cause the other plugs to not fire? What I read elsewhere on this forum sort of supports my suspicions. Does anyone out there think I'm delirious? Any other ideas? The car is not worth another $500 to find out if it fixes the problem, but it's way to good to haul to the boneyard - besides, it's the perfect machine for one timid young lady who's home from college, one leadfoot that's about to turn 18, and another 15 year old that's taking drivers ed right now. I feel better . . . just getting all that off my chest . . .

The coil pack is actually three coils fromed into one pack.  Circuit for 1/4, 3/6 and 2/5.  It would seem only the 3/6 circut is functioning for whatever reason.  The power all three basicly comes from the ASD so if one is up, the ADS is good.  The PCM supplies the ground for each coil.

OK, you tried the PCM and the coil, the only thing left is either the wire between the PCM/coil systems (odd that two would fail), the plug wires from the coil to the plugs (odd that 4 would fail) and the ground to the PCM.  I have seen a weak ground cause havoc on electrical systems.  I'd start there.  It is also a common ground to the Crank sensor so it may have fooled the PCM into a false fault.  It is located on the rt (passenger) side frame rail in the front of the engine comprtment (I think on the inside of the rail below/behind the headlight).

Of course the coil you bought may be bad, or the same goes for the crank sensor but the ground seems the most logical to me.
