Need help with tires on m

Hi there!! I am new to the site so bare with me but am hoping to find some useful info about my '02 Durango 4x4. My husband told me that I should get BFG's all terrain TA KO RWL but I decided that I wanted to see if there was something different that was just as good or better that wasn't so expensive. I found Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo during my search and not only do they cost less they have a better overall rating from customers. I am just wondering if anyone has tried these and if so are they really better than the BFG's? Because from what I can see (putting aside Bridgestone/Firestone's track record in the past) they seem to come out on top?

Secondly, I went to look at the tires and see whatI could find in my area and ran in to some issues with availabilty of the Revo; as well as, how wide I can go without rubbing? I want to go wider and maybe even lower but for sure not taller or skinnier!! So...The guy at the tire store told me there was no way to puta 275/70/16but they could put a265/75/16 but wouldn't that make it taller? When I said I wanted to go wider not taller hesaid that it would rub and therefore I needed to get a 235/75/16 ??? The ones that came on it are 265/70/16's??? (and they don't rub)Okay...I am no expert but isn'tthatgoing to make the Durango higher and skinnier? One of the main reasons I got the Durango is for it's wide wheel base because I am not big on top heavy SUV's, and I have always felt like I have control in the Durango. <IMG src=smileys/smiley7.gif border="0">I have seen Durango's around here that are way lower to the ground and that have tires that stick out...they look much better!!!

Okay...so I know this is really long but I amreally confused now andI don't want to have to ask my husband (who thinks I am not going to be able to figure this out) so I need someone to please help methis!! Surely I am just making it harder that it needs to be...right?<IMG src=smileys/smiley9.gif border="0">

So....

<LI>Does anyone know if the Dueler A/T Revo is a good tire?
<LI>Should I stick with 265/70/16 and deal with the way it looks or
<LI>Is there is a wider tire I can go with and what size should it be without getting taller and that won't rub?(I don't mind going shorter but not taller)
<LI>Does anyone have any experience buying tires online or should I just buy them from a store?</LI>

Do you mean 265's and not 165's? Just soundsa bit skinny for a Durango. 

You can choose to go with 255/65's or 275/55's. According to a tire calculator here are the following specs:

265/70's on a 16" rim has a sidewall of 7.3" If you were to go with the 275/55's you would increase the width and shorten the sidewall to 6" a difference of 1.3"hence lowering your truck.Or if you decide to go with 255/65's you will decrease your width and have a sidewall of 6.5" a whopping .8". So IMO I would stay with the stock size or go with the 275/55's. 

General XP2000's are available in that size. Thats the only brand I could find at Tire Rack.com

Here is a link for a tire calculator. It will allow you to view before and after diameters with different tire sizes and will give you the sidewall in inches. Good Luck...

Buy from www.tirerack.com They have most information you'll need on their site plus they called me when they thought the tires I wanted wouldn't fit. Or vice versa, you can call them. My local auto shop mounted and balanced for $10 per ea. They also have affliated shops that will do the mounting and/or warranty work. The FedEx guy even backed-up my drive and stacked the tires out of the way by the garage so they wouldn't 'roll-away' on their own. Go to a tire dealer, Discount or somebody and physically compare tire sizes to get a real understanding of size differences. A tire with a 1" increase in diameter only adds one-half inch to the wheel well, the other half goes to height of your vehicle. Good-luck.

But anyway...thanks for you help!!! I will look in to that sight and see if I can get the Durango more prepared for the winter driving I am about to have to endure the rest of the season!! 

But I would still like to know if anyone has used the Bridgestone Revo's ... and if they liked them?

Never tried Bridgestones before but I love the BF Goodrich All Terrain. I have them on my Durango and my toyota 4x4. Those tires if you are not a hard driver, gets up to 65k tread life! Overall, highway noise on those tires are pretty good for all terrains. Just my 2 cents.

I have a '98 Durango and wanted to go a size up from my 31x10.5x15. I researched and found out they would fit on the same rims with no rubbing issues. Would you believe I couldn't find a tire dealer who would install anything larger than my stock tires? I kept getting the run around and no one wanted to install them because of rollover issues and liability issues. Yet I see tons of Durangos with taller or wider tires all the time. Hope you have better luck.

Go to Americas tire with the price qoute from Tirerack .com. Tirerack is the absolute cheapest prices but Americas tire price matches-that way you dont have to pay shipping and lug the tires down to the tire store. Bridgestone makes a good tire as does BFG, Yokohama and Dunlap. I'd stay away from the off brands like Pro-comp or Grand pro.
