Default hitch question

my v8 4door dakota doesnt have a trailer hitch...i want to put one in there so i can tow a trailer around...what it has so far is a bumper hitch and whats shown in the pic...what do i need to get the hitch installed...went to dodge dealer and they said they dont have the parts...uhaul told me they can get soemthing for it for 150 dollars....still havent gotten an answer or a part number i need

yeah dodge will charge you up your butt and outta ur ears for that stuff...i was quote $150 just for the wiring and installation from dodge. Personally I'd buy a harness from walmart and splice it into the wires. as for the hitch itself, you can get it and all the parts from different places. I think this seller on ebay is a dodge dealer, they may be able to tell you the part number if you want to order it locally.

they make two styles. one is just a small piece that bolts up where your pic is. that's what i have. requires drilling two holes for the top bolts and two more go through the the holes in the pieces hanging down in your pic. search ebay and you'll find one with a pic. also, some other companys, such as uhaul, valley, etc. make one that goes completly across like a normal hitch. i don't have part numbers, but mine was made by curry and was like $75.

if i were to get one localy...i dont know where i can pick one up..

the one made by curry...where can i get that from....

thats one that i found that could be a bold on with the requirement of drilling 2 more holes...is that a good one?

I have a vally hitch on mine, no drilling and it just bolts up to whats already there I have a write up in the do it yourself forum. so far I have hooked it up to many things including a 35' trailer and had a 16' flip on me and everything is ok hitch wise

i was just looking at the valley one....where did u get it from? i was looking at the stores on their site and none is around my house...i can order it online...but i was hoping to have it on this weekend

I was quoted$500 - $600for the trailer, harness and installation.

I am not paying some idiot $100 an hour to turn a wrench...
