DakotaStone -> MOD TALK (6/15/2007 1:51:48 PM)

I've been thinking about doing this for quite a while. The only reason is because we seem to get the same questions a lot. I have no problems, but I feel that it's a little repetative. On top of that, it'll be easier to maintain and easier for people to look up. I want to encourage anyone and everyone to participate in this. There are a lot of creative people on this site and some very frugal ones too. Keep this thread as a MOD TALK ONLY!! No side bar conversations or Frenchy and I will delete that piece of conversation. So let me start this thread off with what I have and know: The first thing that I put into my truck is the Cold Air Intake (CAI). This allows your truck to pull in more air, which will make it burn more efficiently and it gives it a more of a throaty sound ($210.00 plus $54.00 for a different filter). I have a Air Aid intake with a TruFlo filter (foam vs gauze). You can gain up to 10 hp at the wheels and about the same for torque. K&N is a little more pricey, but they've been around the longest. To compliment the CAI with lower restrictive air going out, I have a CatBack exhaust split sides that I had custom made. It was much cheaper and just as effective as a kit. I spent less than $400.00 with the MagnaFlow Muffler and two chrome tips. Has a nice rumble, but not too loud. I had one of the resonators taken out and kept one in. The resonators do not restrict the air flow out. It's just a straight thru pipe with aluminum wrapped around it. I double checked when I had the exhaust put on. That there between the two probably gave me up to 20 hp, if you go by the ratings that everyone puts out. I don't know. I had my truck Dyno'd in October and my truck was rated at 168 rwhp (I have AWD and the ratings will be lower than rear wheel drive trucks) and 219 lbs of tq. Not bad, but I forgot to include my Stage I JetChip. Currently, the Jet Chip is the only thing that will do a minor reprogram of the ECU. I had a Stage I, and it pretty much gave me a few more HP. One site that I saw said that it adds 18 hp to the 4.7L. That might be at the crank, not at the wheels. The cost for that was about $239.00 at Summit Racing. I ended up getting the Stage II for $180.00 from a private seller. Not sure the HP/TQ rating. Very noticeable. To go with the the Stage II, I bought a 180 degree thermostat (t-stat). This will help your truck run lower temps under the hood. I spent $35.00 through JetChips, but you can get it cheaper at Napa for around $10.00. The last engine mod I have is the Throttle Body (TB). I paid $260.00 through Fastman.com. Our trucks come with a 68mm opening which narrows down to a 65mm in the back. Dan, the owner of Fastman, will tell you to get the 68.5mm for best performance. Anything bigger will take away your low end torque, unless you have a forced air induction (supercharger or turbo). According to Dan, he has heard of a 10/10 rating at the wheels gain and maybe two more miles to MPGs. He also sells Cams. I believe he said 206/212 ($700.00). This will give you more power and torque. SuperDak05 is so far the only one I know of that has put in a set, but I think he bought his from KRC Performance. When you do that, you're going to want to have the ECU reprogrammed to match the cams. This will cost you about $400.00. So you're looking at about $1500.00 to include having someone else put them in for you. Not cheap. For my cosmetics, I haven't been too creative yet. I've added a set of bedstripes, a tri-fold tonneau cover and I tinted the two front windows to match my rears; chrome bug deflector, gas door, and mesh grille. That's pretty much it. I'll be adding more and I hope those of you who want to add stuff take advantage of this thread. Good Luck. Todd I forgot to mention, POST PICS so we can see some progress and what they look like.
